BIG EAST Announces 2018-19 All-Academic Team
NEW YORK - The BIG EAST Conference has announced the names of nearly 3,000 student-athletes who have been selected to the 2018-19 BIG EAST All-Academic Team.
Nominations for the All-Academic Team are submitted by each of the BIG EAST's 10 member schools and affiliate institutions. To be eligible for the honor, a nominee must have competed in a BIG EAST-sponsored sport, attained a minimum grade-point average of 3.00 for the preceding academic year, and completed a minimum of two consecutive semesters or three consecutive quarters of academic work, with a total of 18 semester or 27 quarter credits, not including remedial courses.
There are 2,880 honorees for the 2018-19 academic year; the highest total in the six years since realignment. For the second-consecutive year Villanova led all schools with 342 student-athletes recognized. Georgetown was second with 304. Butler had third most with 269 student-athletes receiving certificates. Affiliate student-athletes made up 179 of the honorees.
Eighty percent of the total amount of student-athletes from the BIG EAST's 10 member institions qualified for the conference's All-Academic Team.
