Top-25 Showdown on BEDN
The third and final non-conference tilt slated for BIG EAST Digital Network coverage is this Sunday as No. 15 Georgetown hosts No. 23 West Virginia at Shaw Field at 1 p.m. ET. Prior to Sunday’s tilt, the Hoyas host RV Princeton at 4 p.m. on Thursday. GU shutout longtime foe West Virginia, 2-0, in Morgantown last year. Sunday’s meeting will be the 22
nd all-time meeting between the two familiar foes. WVU has qualified for NCAA Championship in 19 consecutive seasons, including 2014 when Georgetown eliminated the Mountaineers in the first round. In The Polls
Georgetown remained at No. 15 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll for a second consecutive week, going 1-1-0 since the last poll. Two top-25 squads are on the calendar this week for BIG EAST teams, with Villanova hosting reigning NCAA champion and sixth-ranked Florida State, and the Hoyas welcoming No. 23 West Virginia, both set for 1 p.m. ET on Sunday.
NCAA Leaders
After a five-goal week, Creighton rookie Skylar Heinrich rocketed up the NCAA statistical rankings to No. 9 among all Division I contenders in goals per game (1.2). Heinrich lists in the top 25 in D1 in goals per game, total goals (13
th, six), total points (23
rd, 12) and game-winning goals (19
th, two). Two BIG EAST players are among national leaders in their respective categories, with Seton Hall’s Cassandra Harrigan No. 1 in shot accuracy (1.0) and Butler’s Katie Soderstrom tied for the top spot in total assists with six. Soderstrom also lists fourth with 1.0 assists per game. Marquette’s Maddy Henry (fourth in total saves) and Xavier’s Samantha Dewey (10
th in shots on goal per game) also list in the top 10 nationally in their respective categories. On the team side, Georgetown (corner kicks per game – fourth; fouls per game – fourth) and Butler (assists per game – ninth; total assists – ninth) list among the top-10 nationally in multiple statistical categories.

Seven total matches are on the calendar for BIG EAST teams on Thursday. Xavier puts its two-match winning streak on the line when it hosts Northern Kentucky (7 p.m. ET), while No. 15 Georgetown (vs. RV Princeton, 4 p.m.) and Providence (at RV Boston College, 5:30 p.m.) will look to make it two in a row when they return to the pitch on Thursday. Butler will aim to extend its home unbeaten streak of 24 matches (22-0-2 since 2016) when it hosts Illinois at 5 p.m., while St. John’s (vs. Syracuse, 6 p.m.), Seton Hall (vs. Siena, 6 p.m.) and DePaul (at Loyola Chicago, 8 p.m.) all look to get back on track Thursday evening.
