Seton Hall's Xie, Creighton's Allen Take Weekly Golf Honors

NEW YORK – Seton Hall’s Wenliang Xie was named BIG EAST Male Golfer of the Week and Creighton’s Katie Allen has earned BIG EAST Women’s Golfer of the Week honors for the second week of the fall season.

BIG EAST Male Golfer of the Week
Wenliang Xie, Seton Hall, Fr. – In only his second collegiate tournament, Xie claimed the individual title at the Hartford Hawks Invitational.  He entered the final round in a tie for first place, but pulled away to win the event by firing a 3-under 69.  Xie’s 10-under-par 206 (70-67-69) is the third lowest par-72 three-round score in school history.  He’s only the fourth Pirate ever to finish a tournament under par by double digits.  Seton Hall finished third in the team standings.

BIG EAST Female Golfer of the Week
Katie Allen, Creighton, So. – Allen became the first Bluejay women’s golfer to win a tournament since 2005 as she helped Creighton to a fourth-place team finish at the Loyola Fall Invitational.  After compiling a four-stroke lead with rounds of 72 and 74 for an even-par 146 going into the final round, Allen never lost the lead while carding a 78.  The last Creighton woman to win a tournament outright was Leigh Sutton at the Springlake Classic.  Allen’s 224 total is tied for the school’s seventh-best score since 2003.  She has posted three straight top 10 finishes.

Men’s Notes – Hunter Eichhorn of Marquette tied for first place at the Windon Memorial Classic with a 6-under-par 207 (65-66-76) in Lake Forest, Ill.  The victory is the third of his career and the first since he won the BIG EAST Championship as a freshman in 2018.  He shot 76 on the final day and tied with USF’s Albin Bergstrom.  His 207 score is tied for the second best score of his career.  Marquette finished in a tie for fourth place in the team standings.  Tyler Leach finished with a 211 (72-72-67) and Matt Murlick had a 215 (71-74-70)…Butler and DePaul competed at the Cruader Collegiate, hosted by Valparaiso.  Butler took fourth place led by junior Michael Cascino, who tied for eighth with a 2-under 214 for 54 holes.  He carded a 3-under 69 after rounds of 73 and 72.  The Bulldogs shot a 10-under 278 in the final round, which was 15 strokes better than their second-round score.  Butler finished fourth with a team score of 867 (+3).  DePaul’s Nik Gatmaytan posted a final round of 6-under par 66.  It was the best round by a Blue Demon golfer in 15 years and three short of the school record of 63 which was set in 2004.  Gatmaytan also set a personal best with a 3-under 213 which tied for sixth in the tournament.  The Blue Demons finished sixth…Georgetown opened the season with an 11th-place finish at the VCU Invitational. Freshman David Rogers paced the Hoyas with a 1-over-par 217, which tied for 32nd place overall.  He had a 3-under 69 in his first career round.  Senior Taso Scilaris, playing as an individual, matched Rogers’ 217.
