What To Expect In Week 2
St. John’s and Georgetown both suffered their first losses of the season this week, both in double overtime road contests against fellow ranked foes. The Red Storm and the Hoyas will look to get back in the win column with games at Butler and against Providence, respectively.

Butler will be a tough opponent for St. John’s. The Bulldogs are coming off a 2-1 win over No. 5 Indiana, their in-state rival. No. 9 St. John’s will be the third ranked opponent Butler will face in a row. Butler lost 3-0 to Georgetown last Saturday in the league-opener. The Red Storm defeated Xavier, 3-1, with a come-from-behind victory over the ranked Musketeers (19).  St. John’s won last season’s meeting, 2-0 in Queens and holds a 7-2-1 series advantage. Butler hosts St. John’s on Saturday at 7 p.m. ET.

Georgetown leads the all-time series against Providence, 16-13-3. Last season, the Hoyas won 2-1 in Friartown. Providence is on the best streak among the 10 league teams having won its last four games, including a 1-0 win on Wednesday night over Brown. The Hoyas defeated Butler 3-0 to open league play, while Providence defeated Seton Hall 1-0. The Friars-Hoyas contest will air on BEDN at 1 p.m. ET on Saturday.

Xavier hosts Marquette in the first match of the weekend, Friday at 7 p.m. ET on BEDN. The Musketeers bounced back from a two-game losing streak (Memphis, St. John’s) with a 1-0 win at IUPUI on Tuesday night. Marquette also got back in the win column with a win at Wisconsin, 2-0, on Tuesday. The Golden Eagles lost 1-0 to Creighton to open league play. Marquette leads the all-time series 6-3-1, including a win last season, 2-1, in Milwaulkee. The Golden Eagles also knocked the Musketeers out of the tournament on Nov. 3, 2018. The match ended in a 2-2 tie in double overtime before the Golden Eagles advanced, 7-6, on PKs.

Seton Hall hosts DePaul at 6 p.m. on Saturday, the first game at the newly-renovated Owen T. Carroll Field. To commemorate the opening, the first 50 fans in attendance will receive a Seton Hall soccer scarf, the first 100 a stress ball. Seton Hall is coming off a 4-1 rout of NJIT on Tuesday. Camil Koreichi scored a pair of goals. DePaul defeated Oakland on the road 1-0. DePaul and Villanova played to a scoreless draw to open BIG EAST play last week, while Seton Hall lost to Providence 1-0. DePaul leads the all-time series 5-2-2. Last season, the teams played to a 1-1 draw in Chicago.

Creighton hosts Villanova in the Saturday nightcap, 8 p.m. ET on BEDN. The Bluejays are riding a three-game winning streak with wins over Nebraska-Omaha (2-1), Marquette (1-0) and Tulsa (4-3, 2OT).  Villanova is coming off a 1-0 win over George Washington on Tuesday to get back into the W column after a 0-2-1 series of games.  The win over George Washington marked Villanova’s sixth shutout of the season. Creighton leads the all-time series against Villanova 4-2-0. Last season, the Bluejays earned a 1-0 victory at Villanova with a game winner from Luke Haakenson in the 69th minute.
