BIG EAST Women’s Basketball Player of the Week
Kristen Spolyar, Butler, Sr., G
Spolyar finished last week as the BIG EAST’s No. 1 scorer and No. 2 rebounder, averaging 27.5 points and 10.5 rebounds against No. 14/15 DePaul and Marquette. Spolyar reached the 30-point mark for the second time this season with a game-high 30 points along with nine rebounds in Friday’s win over the Golden Eagles, before scoring a game-high 25 points while matching the game high with 12 rebounds in Sunday’s setback to the nationally ranked Blue Demons. For the week she shot .594 from the field and .444 from deep.
BIG EAST Women’s Basketball Freshman of the Week
Maddy Siegrist, Villanova, R-Fr., F
Siegrist picks up her eighth BIG EAST Freshman of the Week honor of the year after finishing second in the league in scoring last week with a 21.0 average, to go along with 9.0 rebounds which ranked fourth among all conference players. Siegrist led Villanova to a non-conference win over Penn on Wednesday with 27 points, six boards and three assists before going for 15 points, 12 rebounds and two dimes in Saturday’s BIG EAST win over Georgetown. Her eight double-doubles on the year lead the BIG EAST, while her nine 20-point games is tied atop the conference ledger.
BIG EAST Women’s Basketball Weekly Honor Roll
Chante Stonewall, DePaul, Sr., F
Stonewall helped keep No. 14/15 DePaul undefeated in BIG EAST play with 16.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.0 steals and .464 shooting in road wins at Xavier and Butler. She notched her ninth 20-point game of the season with 22 points against the Musketeers.
Altia Anderson, Marquette, Sr., F
Anderson averaged a double-double with 11.5 points, 11.0 rebounds in a 1-1 road swing for the Golden Eagles. Anderson’s week was highlighted by her first career double-double, going toe-to-toe with the BIG EAST’s top rebounder in A’riana Gray and winning the battle of the boards, collecting a game-high 14 to go along with 10 points.
Alissa Alston, St. John’s, R-Sr., G
Alston led the Red Storm to a big 2-0 home swing, averaging 12.5 points and 3.0 assists, posting a 6.0 assist-turnover ratio as the redshirt-senior guard committed just one miscue in 73 minutes of action. Alston was instrumental on the defensive end as well as St. John’s held -/RV Creighton and Providence to just 58.0 points per game.
Shadeen Samuels, Seton Hall, Sr., F
Samuels led the Pirates to a pair of home wins, averaging 19.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and .667 shooting in victories over -/RV Creighton and Providence. She reached the 20-point mark for the first time this season with a game-high 23 points against the Friars.
Mary Gedaka, Villanova, Sr., F
In a 2-0 week for the Wildcats, Gedaka averaged 19.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and .452 shooting. In Wednesday’s win over Penn, the senior totaled 21 points, nine rebounds, four assists and two steals, before going for 17 points, five rebounds and three dimes in Saturday’s win over Georgetown.
