Campbell, Djokic Earn Season’s First #BEtennis Weekly Awards
NEW YORK – Creighton’s Nick Campbell and DePaul’s Hristina Djokic have been awarded the first BIG EAST Tennis Male and Female Athlete of the Week honors for 2020, respectively. Campbell knocked off a ranked opponent, while Djokic went 4-1 on the weekend at the Indiana Winter Invitational.
BIG EAST Male Athlete of the Week
Nick Campbell, Creighton, So. (Larnaca, Cyprus.)
Campbell kicked off the 2020 dual season with a big win as the sophomore tallied a three-set victory at No. 1 against Iowa’s 60th-ranked Kareem Allaf by a score of 6-4, 4-6, 10-4. Campbell and teammate Mac Mease paired at No. 1 doubles, but narrowly fell 6-4 to the Hawkeyes’ Will Davies and Joe Tyler.
BIG EAST Female Athlete of the Week
Hristina Djokic, DePaul, So. (Belgrade, Serbia)
Djokic returned to the court after missing the entirety of the 2018-19 season and amassed a combined 4-1 record at the Indiana Winter Invitational last weekend. The sophomore notched two straight-set singles victories including a 6-3, 6-3 win over Marshall’s Madison Riley and a 6-1, 6-3 victory of Indiana’s Lexi Kubas. Djokic paired with teammate Marija Jovicic to pick up two doubles victories against tandems from Wright State and Northern Illinois.
