Kamar Baldwin scored 10 points in Friday's OT win against Marquette
MBB Minute -- Butler Rallies Past Marquette in OT
In a wild game late Friday night at Hinkle Fieldhouse, Butler outlasted Marquette 89-85 in overtime. The Bulldogs’ Kamar Baldwin had only two points at halftime, but finished with a game-high 31 points, which included 10 in overtime. He also had eight rebounds and five assists. Markus Howard led Marquette with 26 points – his seventh straight game with at least 25 points -- and moved into fifth place on the BIG EAST’s all-time scoring list with 1,318 points. Sacar Anim finished with 22 points for the Golden Eagles (14-6, 4-4 BIG EAST), who have lost two of their four league games in overtime. Butler (16-4, 4-3) snapped a three-game losing streak.
A lighter than usual Saturday schedule shows only two games.
Villanova travels to Providence for a 1 p.m. ET tipoff at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center. The Wildcats (15-3, 5-1) have built a five-game winning streak. Saddiq Bey leads five Villanova players in double figures with a 15.0 average. The Friars (11-9, 4-3) are 8-2 at home this season. Alpha Diallo leads the team in scoring (14.0) and rebounding (8.3) and has posted seven double-doubles. Villanova is Providence’s third straight ranked opponent.
DePaul hosts St. John’s Saturday at 2 p.m. on FS1 is the first rematch in league play. Two weeks ago, St. John’s beat DePaul 74-67 at Madison Square Garden. Mustapha Heron led the Johnnies with 18 points. In BIG EAST play, St. John’s (12-8, 1-6) holds a 16-9 edge in the series. Paul Reed leads the Blue Demons (13-6, 1-5) with a scoring average of 15.9 points and a rebounding mark of 11.7
