Xavier 81, Detroit Mercy 73
Xavier picked up an 81-73 win at Detroit Mercy in the team's 2020-21 season opener. Freshman Nia Clark posted a double-double, scoring 14 points with 10 steals in her Musketeer debut. Clark led four Musketeers in double figures with 14 points on 6-for-13 shooting. She added 10 steals, four assists and three rebounds. The 10 steals rank second in single-game school history. Xavier finished the game with 22 steals, tied for the second most in single-game school history.

Villanova 70, Rider 37
First-year Villanova head coach Denise Dillon claimed her first win at her alma mater with a 33-point, wire-to-wire victory over visiting Rider. Maddy Siegrist led the way in the win with a double-double of 28 points and 10 rebounds. She was 13-of-19 from the field and 2-of-5 from three-point range. Lior Garzon was the second Wildcat to reach double figures with 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting (3-of-4 from long distance). For the game, Villanova was 30-of-57 from the field (52.6%) and 8-of-20 from three-point range (40.0%).

Drake 75, Creighton 62
In Creighton's first sporting event of any kind since March 12th, the Bluejay women's basketball team dropped its season-opener to Drake by a 75-62 score on Wednesday. Temi Carda led Creighton with 18 points and eight rebounds, while freshman Emma Ronsiek recorded 13 points and six rebounds in her collegiate debut. The Bluejays shot .328 from the field on the afternoon but went a perfect 14-14 from the charity stripe, including a 6-6 clip from Carda.

Quinnipiac 71, Providence 65
Povidence trailed by as many as 15 points in the second quarter and rallied to take the lead late in the fourth before falling to Quinnipiac, 71-65, in the 2020-21 season opener on Wednesday. Alyssa Geary paced the Friars with a career-high 17 points, while Rose Caverly added a game-high 20 points for Quinnipiac, including six-straight from the foul line in the final 1:41 of play. PC’s Mary Baskerville just missed out on a double-double, finishing the game with 15 points, a team-high nine rebounds, two assists, one steal and one blocked shot.
