The lone game on Monday’s BIG EAST slate is Creighton hosting Marquette at 9 p.m. ET on FS1.
The Bluejays (4-1), who are ranked ninth in the AP poll which was released today, are coming off a 98-74 home win over Nebraska, while the Golden Eagles (4-2) lost 69-60 at UCLA, also on Friday. Tonight’s game will be the BIG EAST opener for both teams.
Creighton has won the last three matchups with Marquette after the Golden Eagles had taken six straight in the series. In BIG EAST play, the two teams have split 14 meetings.
It could be a battle between the Creighton offense and the Marquette defense. The Bluejays lead the BIG EAST in scoring offense, averaging 85.2 points per game, while Golden Eagles rank second in scoring defense, yielding 63.2 points per game.
Last night, Georgetown and St. John’s played a wild one in McDonough Arena. The Johnnies led by seven points with less than three minutes to play in regulation, but still needed a buzzer-beating layup by Greg Williams Jr. to force overtime. In the extra period, Georgetown used an 8-1 run to secure a 97-94 victory.
On Sunday, the BIG EAST announced two adjustments to the league schedule. DePaul will play at Providence on Thursday at 7 p.m. on FS1. The Xavier at DePaul game scheduled for Friday, has been postponed due to COVID related issues in the Xavier program. No makeup date has been announced.
BIG EAST teams own an overall record of 37-12 (.755) in non-conference play after the weekend’s results.
