#BIGEASTmbb Minute: Creighton, Seton Hall Notch Road Wins

Both road teams won conference games Thursday with Creighton and Seton Hall enjoying the night in their blue uniforms.

Ninth-ranked Creighton got off to an early 11-2 lead at St. John’s and recorded a 94-76 victory at Carnesecca Arena.  The Johnnies got as close as two points three times early in the second half, but a balanced scoring attack improved the Bluejays to 5-2 overall and 1-1 in BIG EAST play.  Marcus Zegarowski, who did not make a 3-pointer in Monday’s home loss to Marquette, shot 6-of-7 from 3-point range and finished with a game-high 20 points.  Julian Champagnie led St. John’s (5-4, 0-3 BIG EAST) with 16 points. Making his first start since the season opener due to a head injury, Rasheem Dunn had 10 points, seven assists and no turnovers in 34 minutes.

Seton Hall led most of the way at Marquette until a Golden Eagle rally tied the game 61-61 with 1:52 left.  But the Pirates (5-3, 2-0) recovered to win 70-63.  Sandro Mamukelashvili registered game highs of 17 points and seven assists.  He assisted on a go-ahead 3-pointer by Shavar Reynolds Jr. with 42 seconds left.  Marquette’s D.J. Carton continued his productive play with a team-high 16 points.  The Golden Eagles (5-3, 1-1) had a 38-29 edge on the boards.  Dawson Garcia pulled down 12 rebounds.

BIG EAST action continues on Saturday with a pair of non-conference games.  Butler meets Indiana in the Crossroads Classic at 11:30 a.m. ET on BTN.  The Bulldogs are 1-1 after Wednesday’s 85-66 loss at Villanova.  The Wildcats (6-1), ranked seventh in the AP poll, will host Saint Joseph’s at 9 p.m. on FS1.

BIG EAST teams own an overall record of 37-12 (.755) in non-conference play.
