#BIGEASTmbb Minute: Friars Edge Blue Demons In Double OT

Three Conference Matchups Set For Wednesday

In the only BIG EAST action on Sunday, Providence outlasted DePaul 95-90 in double overtime at PC’s Alumni Hall.

The Friars (6-3, 2-1 BIG EAST), who have been anchored this season by David Duke and Nate Watson, got an important third contribution from A. J. Reeves, who scored 22 points.  His 3-pointer in the final seconds of regulation forced the game into overtime.  Duke finished with 24 points and six assists.  Watson had 18 points and 14 rebounds.  DePaul’s Romeo Weems had 21 points and seven boards, while Charlie Moore registered 19 points and eight assists for the Blue Demons (1-1, 0-1 BIG EAST).

BIG EAST play picks up again on Wednesday with three contests.  Providence is back at home when it hosts Butler at 5 p.m. ET on FS1.  The Friars and Bulldogs (2-3, 1-1 BIG EAST) met just last Wednesday with Butler taking a 70-64 decision.  Butler freshman JaKobe Coles came off the bench to pace five Bulldogs in double figures with 14 points.  The Friars, whose both league victories have come in overtime, got 19 points from Nate Watson.  David Duke finished with 17 points, eight rebounds and five assists.  PC struggled from 3-point range, shooting 4-of-26.

The games continue on FS1 at 7:15 p.m. when Seton Hall visits Xavier.  The Pirates (6-4, 3-1 BIG EAST) have won two of their three league games on the road so far this season.  Xavier is 1-0 at home in BIG EAST play.  The visiting team has won the last four meetings in the series.  The Musketeers have shown to be improved defensively.  They rank third in the league in scoring defense, allowing only 68.4 points per game and are in first field goal defense, allowing only 38.2 percent from the field.

DePaul has its second of three straight games on the road this week, meeting UConn.  CBS Sports Network will televise at 9 p.m.  The Blue Demons are coming off their loss in double overtime at Providence, while the Huskies (3-1, 0-1 BIG EAST) have not played since a 76-74 home loss to Creighton on Dec. 20.  The two teams played together in the BIG EAST from 2006-07 through 2012-13.  The Huskies held a 7-1 edge in regular season meetings and won both matchups in the BIG EAST Tournament.
