Sunday’s six-game schedule was reduced to five, but BIG EAST teams still enjoyed the day, recording a 4-1 record while nailing three road wins.

No. 12 Villanova got the day off to a good start with a quality 68-64 victory at No. 17 Texas in the Big 12-BIG EAST Battle.  The Wildcats got 19-point efforts from sophomores Jeremiah Robinson-Earl and Justin Moore.  Jermaine Samuels scored eight points, pulled down 12 rebounds and made the winning plays that Wildcat fans have seen the senior contribute.

Xavier took the short bus trip to Cincinnati’s Fifth Third Arena and won the hotly-contested Crosstown Shootout 77-69.  The Musketeers closed the game with a 19-7 run.  Paul Scruggs led the charge with 20 points, five rebounds and five assists.  Zach Freemantle added 16 points and a game-high nine rebounds.

St. John’s started a bit slowly in his home game against Stony Brook before pulling away for an 89-66 triumph.  Greg Williams Jr. made 8-of-11 from the field en route to a game-high 21 points.  Julian Champagnie chipped in 16 points.

In another Big-12-BIG EAST Battle, Georgetown hung in with No. 11 West Virginia before the Mountains secured an 80-71 victory at McDonough Arena.  Jahvon Blair continued to provide impressive scoring punch, delivering 19 points.  Jamorko Pickett added 11 points and eight rebounds.

The Sunday action ended late in the evening at Penn State where visiting Seton Hall overcame a 19-point deficit before needing another rally to outlast the host Nittany Lions 98-92.  Sandro Mamukelashvili scored a career-high 30 points.  Shavar Reynolds, who hit a 3-point that put the Pirates ahead to stay in the extra period, had 16 points.

DePaul’s game at Iowa State was canceled under guidelines for COVID protocols for the DePaul program.

There are no games scheduled for Monday.
