Ricketts, Cantu Earn Season’s First #BIGEASTsb Weekly Awards

NEW YORK – Butler’s Karli Ricketts and Creighton’s Ashley Cantu have picked up the first #BIGEASTsb Weekly Honors of the 2020 season. Ricketts earns BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week after a 2-0 weekend in the circle including a 1.16 ERA and one shutout. Cantu claims BIG EAST Player of the Week with a BIG EAST best 12 hits on the weekend to go along with a .600 batting average.

BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week
Karli Ricketts, Butler, Sophomore, P/DP, (Indianapolis, Ind.)
Ricketts earns her second-career BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week certificate after pitching a 2-0 weekend at the Rambler Rumbler in Rosemont, Ill. The sophomore posted a BIG EAST best 1.16 ERA in 12.0 innings of work. Ricketts threw a shutout against Western Illinois on Sunday, allowing only two hits in five innings. In a win against Evansville, Ricketts threw a complete game with 11 struck outs in a 3-2 win. Ricketts totaled 15 strikeouts on the weekend.

BIG EAST Player of the Week
Ashley Cantu, Creighton, Senior, OF, (Frisco, Texas)
Cantu earns her third BIG EAST Player of the Week honor after leading Creighton to a 3-2 weekend at the H-E-B Classic. Cantu finished the weekend the a BIG EAST leading 12 hits while posting a .600 batting average in 20 at-bats. Cantu went 5-for-5 with four RBI, two doubles and two runs scored in CU’s 24-1 win over Toledo. Cantu’s five hits in a single game marked a program best for games lasting seven innings or shorter. The senior closed out the weekend going 4-for-5 with three runs scored in a win over Incarnate Word.

Weekly Honor Roll
Lauren Fey, Butler, So., IF
Fey led the Bulldogs at the plate in a 4-1 opening weekend. The sophomore hit .600 with nine hits on 15 at-bats while scoring eight runs. Fey posted an on base percentage of .700 while adding five walks and four stolen bases.

Erin Andris, DePaul, Sr., 2B/SS
Andris paced the Blue Demons at the UNI Dome Classic. The senior posted six hits, three home runs and seven RBI on 17 at-bats. Andris closed the weekend with a .353 hitting percentage and .882 slugging percentage.

Abby Wingo, Seton Hall, Fr., OF
Wingo led the Pirates at the plate at the Elon Softball Classic amassing 6 RBI, four runs and two stolen bases. The freshman went 8-for-15 on the weekend, including a 4-for-5 mark in The Hall’s win over host Elon.

Megan Kern, Villanova, So., IF/C
Kern aided the Wildcats en route to picking up three wins at the River City Leadoff. The sophomore posted a .429 batting average to go with six hits, two doubles, and four RBI. Defensively, Kern registered nine putouts for a .fielding percentage of .955.

Paige Rauch, Villanova, Jr., P/IF
Rauch led Villanova in the circle, posting a 3-0 record in three wins for the Wildcats at the River City Leadoff. Rauch posted a 1.31 ERA in 16.0 innings of work including one complete game. The junior posted six strikeouts on the weekend.
