Glory Johnson matched her career high with seven goals while adding an assist to lead Old Dominion (1-1) to its first win of the 2020 season, taking down VCU 14-9 at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex on Wednesday afternoon. ODU never trailed in the contest as Johnson scored three of the game’s first five goals. The Monarchs led by as many as six, 10-4, before the Rams got within three, 11-8, midway through the second half. ODU responded with a three-goal run, including Johnson’s seventh score of the game. Her eight points match the single-game high in Division I this season. Sabrina Leatherwood made 10 saves for the win, while Michelle Hallman tallied a game-high three assists.

Weekend Ahead
All six BIG EAST squads will take the field between Friday and Sunday this week, including a season opener and a top-20 showdown. Marquette (0-1) opens the weekend on Friday against former conference foe Cincinnati (2 p.m. ET), before a four-game Saturday which includes No. 19/20 Georgetown (1-0) hosting No. 12/16 Penn at 1 p.m. Fellow unbeaten teams No. 10/9 Denver (1-0) and Villanova (1-0) will look to remain perfect when they visit Louisville and Cornell, respectively. Coming off a midweek win, Old Dominion (1-1) rounds out the Saturday contests at Winthrop at 1 p.m., before Butler opens the 2020 season at home against Hanover at 1 p.m. on Sunday.

Coming off a 17-13 win over then-No. 20/RV Stanford, Denver moved up one spot in this week’s
Inside Lacrosse Media Poll to No. 9. The Pioneers were No. 9 in the 2019 final poll. Despite cruising to a 19-5 win over Saint Joseph’s in last Saturday’s opener, Georgetown fell one spot in the media poll to No. 20. The IWLCA did not release new rankings this week as Denver and Georgetown remained 10
th and 19
th, respectively. The Hoyas have the lone ranked opponent on this week’s schedule as they hosts No. 12/16 Penn on Saturday at 1 p.m. ET.
