No. 13/13 DePaul inches closer to regular-season crown while Marquette, St. John’s move up in the standings.

Seton Hall 71, Providence 45
A decisive 24-6 third quarter boosted the Pirates to Friday’s midday road win at Providence. Five Seton Hall players finished in double figures, including 12 points apiece from Desiree Elmore and Barbara Johnson. PC’s Alyssa Geary matched the game high of 12 points while adding six rebounds. Shadeen Samuels scored six of her 11 points in the decisive third frame in which The Hall made 50-percent of its attempts from the field. Providence committed just 11 turnovers from struggled to connect from deep, making just three of its 20 three-point attempts.

St. John’s 77, Creighton 70
The Red Storm used a big first half and withstood a late run by the Bluejays to pick up a crucial season sweep of Creighton, Friday night in Omaha. St. John’s led 47-35 at halftime and by as many as 18 in the third before a fourth-quarter rally saw the Bluejays get within two, 69-67, with under four minutes remaining. Creighton went 1-for-7 from the field after that point as the Red Storm closed the contest on an 8-3 run. Alissa Alston led four St. John’s players in double figures with 16 points, while teammate Alisha Kebbe notched a double-double of 13 points and 12 rebounds. Thanks to an 11-of-12 clip from the free-throw line, Creighton’s Tatum Rembao scored a game-high 21 points while Olivia Elger scored 14 sparked by four made triples.

13/13 DePaul 89, Butler 60
Both squads shot over 40 percent from the field on the night but it was the Blue Demons’ 13 three-pointers that proved to be the difference, including five made triples by Sonya Morris who finished with a game-high 23 points. DePaul sprinted out to a 27-point first quarter and added an exclamation point of a 31-point third quarter en route to clinching its 13th BIG EAST win of the season and fourth consecutive win on the year. The loss was Butler’s first BIG EAST road setback of the season and halted its winning streak at five games. Katherine Strong led Butler with 15 points while Kristen Spolyar notched a double-double of 13 points and 10 boards. DePaul’s Kelly Campbell reached double-digit assists for the third time this season with 11 dimes, to go along with 10 rebounds and nine points. With one more win, the Blue Demons will clinch at least a share of their sixth BIG EAST regular-season title in the last seven seasons.

Marquette 61, Xavier 48
The Musketeers narrowed a once-15-point gap down to one midway through the third quarter, but the host Golden Eagles claimed a 19-12 fourth-quarter advantage to hold on for the win. MU’s Isabelle Spingola scored a game-high 21 points thanks to a 5-of-11 clip from beyond the arc, while Ayanna Townsend led Xavier with 13 points off 6-of-7 shooting. Marquette claimed the season sweep of Xavier and jumped over Butler for second place in the BIG EAST standings with its 10th conference win of the season. MU won the rebounding battle 44-30 and scored 16 second-chance points, while XU forced 16 turnovers and scored 12 points off the miscues.
