NEW YORK - The BIG EAST men’s lacrosse teams went .500 on Saturday, with Georgetown, Providence and St. John’s earning victories, while Denver, Marquette and Villanova fell just short. The Friars move to 3-0 on the season with the most recent win over Bryant, 16-9. No. 15/15 Georgetown is 2-0 with the Hoyas’ win over Maryland Baltimore County, 14-8. St. John’s earned its first victory of the season, 13-11 over Hartford.

No. 3/3 Yale18, RV/RV VILLANOVA 12
Despite being tied at halftime the Villanova Wildcats (0-2) fell to the Yale Bulldogs by a final of 18-12 on Saturday afternoon. Junior Colin Crowley had a career high day (three goals) and started it off with the first goal of the game in the opening seconds to put the Wildcats up. The Bulldogs answered back scoring five straight in less than seven minutes to go up 5-1. By halftime, Villanova had tied it up at 7-7. At the end of the third quarter, Villanova was just down two, 13-11. Connor Kirst led scoring for Villanova with four goals. Will Vitton started in goal and played the just over 47 minutes before Brendan Haggerty made his career debut in goal. The junior finished with two saves playing the final 12 minutes.

PROVIDENCE 16, Bryant 9
Providence (3-0) topped Bryant 16-9 on Saturday on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium. The 3-0 start for Providence is the first time since 2013. Goalie Toby Burgdorf recorded a career-high 15 saves on the afternoon for his third career win. Three Friars recorded five points on the day. Matt Grillo recorded three goals and two assists. Sean Leahey and Ryan Nawrocki tied their career-highs in points. Leahey had three goals and two assists while Nawrocki had two goals and three assists.

Jacksonville 11, MARQUETTE 9
Marquette (2-1) lost 11-9 to Jacksonville on Saturday afternoon at Valley Fields. The Golden Eagles (2-1) received a hat trick from freshman midfielder Chris Kirschner, while senior Connor McClelland scored twice and junior goalie John Hulsman made 11 saves in net. JU used five straight scores spanning the third and fourth quarters to take a commanding 11-7 lead before a pair of late tallies from Kirschner in the final six minutes of regulation. He and Anthony Orsini (2018) are the only two players in school history to score two goals in their first three collegiate outings.
Jacksonville (1-1) wins its first game against Marquette since 2014 after losing each of the previous four meetings. The Dolphins out-shot MU, 38-30, and forced MU into 24 turnovers and eight failed clears.

Denver (1-1) fell to Duke 15-13 in-front of a sellout crowd on Saturday afternoon at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium. Junior Jack Hannah netted the 21st sock trick in the program's Division I history with a career-high six goals to go with an assist in the loss for Denver. Senior Ethan Walker added two goals and three assists en-route to becoming the fourth player in Denver's Division I history to reach 200 career points. Sophomore midfielder Alex Simmons was the only other multi-goal scorer for the Pioneers, netting two to go along with a helper. Duke scored seven goals in the first period to take a 7-2 lead. Denver battled back in the fourth quarter, outscoring Duke 5-2, but it was not enough to erase the four goal deficit the Pios had going into the final period.

Georgetown continued its unbeaten start to the 2020 season with a 14-8 victory over defending America East Conference champion UMBC on Saturday afternoon. The 15th-ranked Hoyas improve to 2-0 on the year while the Retrievers (0-1) drop their first contest of the season. Jake Carraway led the Hoyas with four goals and three assists for seven points. James Reilly was dominant at the 'X', winning 19-of-24 faceoffs and collecting 12 ground balls. Robert Clark had a hat trick, Dylan Watson chipped in two goals and Massimo Bucci had a goal and three assists.
