DeNucci, Vashistha Claim #BEtennis Weekly Honors
NEW YORK – Villanova’s Lexi DeNucci and Aditya Vashistha of St. John’s have been recognized as the latest BIG EAST Tennis Athletes of the Week. DeNucci turned in a 3-0 overall weekend including the match-clinching win over St. John’s. Vashistha continued his hot start to the 2020 dual campaign with a 2-0 mark at No.1 singles.
BIG EAST Female Athlete of the Week
Lexi DeNucci, Villanova, Jr., (Glastonbury, Connecticut)
DeNucci claims her first Athlete of the Week award after a 2-0 weekend at No. 3 singles and a 1-0 record at No. 2 doubles. The Wildcats posted two wins over the weekend with victories over St. John’s (4-3) and Towson (6-1). VU’s win over the Red Storm marked the first for the Wildcats since 2000. The junior clinched the match for her team with a 7-5, 6-3 win over Oceane Gabriel of St. John’s. In VU’s 6-1 rout of Towson, DeNucci took down her opponent 6-3, 7-5 after partnering with Kaylan Rotman at No. 2 doubles for a 6-4 victory.
BIG EAST Male Athlete of the Week
Aditya Vashistha, St. John’s, Jr., (Bikaner, India)
Vashistha tallied two wins at No. 1 singles last weekend to extend his spring record to 5-0. Vashistha, ranked No. 40 by the ITA, did not drop a set over the weekend taking down Boston’s David Bogatin 7-6, 6-4 and Bryant’s Wilson Dong 6-4, 7-6. This marks Vashistha’s second BIG EAST Athlete of the Week recognition of the 2020 season.
