Sandro Mamukelashvili beats the buzzer to give Seton Hall the 74-72 win over Butler
MBB Minute – Seton Hall Beats Butler at the Buzzer; Villanova, Providence Earn Road Wins
In a wild final minute of play, Seton Hall’s Sandro Mamukelashvili scored off an inbounds pass at the buzzer to give the Pirates a 74-72 victory over Butler while Villanova and Providence both registered road wins.
Butler (19-8, 7-7), ranked 21st by AP, made three 3-pointers in the game’s final 31 seconds. The last by Sean McDermott tied the game 72-72 with 10 seconds to play. No. 16 Seton Hall (19-7, 11-3) had a balanced scoring attack led by Quincy McKnight’s 18 points. Myles Powell had 16 points, six rebounds and five assists. Kamar Baldwin led the Bulldogs with game highs of 20 points and six assists.
No. 12 Villanova used hot shooting from beyond the arc to win 91-71 at DePaul. The Wildcats (20-6, 9-4) shot 69.2 percent from 3-point range (18-of-29), the highest 3-point percentage by a BIG EAST team in any game this season. Wildcat Saddiq Bey scored a game-high 20 points and was 5-of-7 from 3-point range. Justin Moore shot 4-of-5 from beyond the arc and had 17 points. Jalen Coleman-Lands led DePaul (13-13, 1-12) with 17 points.
After trailing 34-30 at halftime, Providence stepped up in the second half and claimed a 73-63 victory at Georgetown. The Friars (15-12, 8-6) outscored the Hoyas (15-11, 5-8) 43-29 after intermission while outshooting Georgetown from the floor 60 percent to 36.4 percent. PC’s Alpha Diallo continued his productive play with 18 points and eight rebounds. The Hoyas’ Jahvon Blair, who had played 40 minutes in each of the previous four games, posted a game-high 20 points and six rebounds in “only” 37 minutes.
BIG EAST play continues Saturday with a FOX doubleheader – Marquette at Providence at noon ET followed by Villanova at Xavier at 2:30 p.m. Georgetown plays at DePaul at 9 p.m. on FS1.
