Creighton (7-5) took part in the Tiger Classic over the weekend, posting a 2-1 mark. The Bluejays picked up victories over Rider and Central Connecticut State before falling to Bowling Green in the weekend finale. The Bluejays utilized a late scoring surge in the final three innings to topple Rider 7-2 behind two singles from Sam Alm and Mileah McKelvy in the sixth inning to score a total of four runs. Mikayla Santa Cruz picked up her third win of the season in 2.2 innings of work with four strikeouts to just one walk surrendered. Kiele Miller led the way for CU in its 6-2 win over Central Connecticut State. The junior pitcher posted a career-high 14 strikeouts in the circle in a complete game of work. McKelvy led the Bluejays at the plate once again with a pair of doubles and three RBIs.
Villanova (8-7) traveled to the Sunshine State once again for a slate of games at the Disney Citrus Classic. The Wildcats tallied a 2-3 record in three days of competition with wins over Clemson and Morgan State. VU started the weekend off on the right foot with a 2-1 decision over Clemson in a pitcher’s duel. Paige Rauch picked up her sixth win of the season in seven innings of work. The junior tallied seven strikeouts and surrendered just four hits. A two-run home run in the second inning by Caroline Jones provided the scoring spark for VU. Rauch posted her league-leading seventh win on the season in Villanova’s 5-0 win over Morgan State on Saturday behind 12 strikeouts. Rauch’s double along with home runs from Chloe Smith, Sydney Hayess and Jones provided the scoring spark to lift VU to victory.
DePaul (6-9) saw action at the Samford Tournament in Birmingham, Ala. amassing a 2-3 record. The Blue Demons kicked off the weekend with an 8-0 win over Georgia Tech in five innings of action before picking up its second victory in an 8-2 contest over Samford on Saturday afternoon. Maranda Guttierez lifted DePaul to an early 1-0 lead over the Yellow Jackets in the first inning before the Blue Demons exploded for a combined seven runs in the third and fourth. Kirista Dalgarn picked up her third win of the season in the circle with seven strikeouts and just two hits in five innings. In a win against Samford, Dalgarn threw another complete game for her fourth win of the season while three different Blue Demons recorded two hits at the plate. DePaul also saw its first competition against a Top-25 opponent, dropping a pair of contests to No. 11/13 Kentucky.
St. John’s (4-11) traveled to Beaumont, Texas for the Cardinal Classic hosted by Lamar University. The Red Storm posted a 2-3 mark on the weekend with two wins over Northern Colorado to close out the weekend. On Saturday afternoon, SJU took a 3-2 victory over the Bears behind a balanced offensive outburst. In the first inning, Kaitlyn Mattera tallied an RBI single to left to score Kaitlyn Lologo and put the Johnnies out front. The Red Storm sealed the victory with a Lologo triple followed by a Gretchen Bowie RBI double to put SJU ahead for good 3-2. Erin Brown picked up the win in the circle, allowing just one earned run. The Johnnies posted 15 hits in an 12-5 rout of Northern Colorado on Sunday afternoon. SJU jumped out to a 6-3 lead after two innings before adding ix more runs in the final two frames. Bowie led the way at the plate with three hits and three RBIs on four at bats.
Georgetown (3-12) saw action at the Madeira Beach Spring Games where the Hoyas notched two victories on Saturday over Cornell (3-2) and Manhattan (6-4). In the victory over the Big Red, the Hoyas led 3-0 in the bottom of the sixth inning and staved off a two-run seventh by Cornell to pick up the win. Nora Campo’s second double of the day brought home Savannah Jones and proved to be the difference in the game for the Hoyas. London Diller picked up the win in the circle in seven innings of work. Against Manhattan, the Hoyas utilized a balanced offense at the plate with three different Hoyas recording a pair of hits. Noelle Holliday led the way offensively with two home runs to account for four RBIs. Cassie Henning picked up her first win on the season in the circle while Katie Vannicola registered the save.
Seton Hall (4-9) made the trip to Conway, S.C. for the Chanticleer Showdown where the Pirates came away with a win over Iona in the weekend finale. The Hall dropped two contests to tournament host Coastal Carolina and a single game to UMBC before ending the weekend on a high note with a 4-3 victory over the Gaels. Seton Hall received three home runs across the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to pick up the win behind the bats of Jaden Tate and Baylee Allender. Tate tallied two home runs in three at bats while Allender picked up a homer in the fifth inning. Shelby Smith earned the win in the circle with three innings of work and no hits allowed.
Providence (3-7) also traveled to Madeira Beach, Fla. for the Spring Games. The Friars picked up a resounding 13-3 win against Merrimack in the tournament finale on Sunday morning. PC used an eight-run third inning to fuel the five-inning victory. Jessica Tomaso led the way for the Friars, going four-for-four from the plate with a six-RBI performance while also scoring three runs. Daniela Alvarez recorded her second win of the season with five innings of work and three strikeouts.
