Swimming and Diving Championships Set to Begin Wednesday

The 2020 BIG EAST Swimming and Diving Championship presented by Jeep begins on Wednesday afternoon at the Nassau County Aquatic Center. The event returns to Long Island for the 14th time in BIG EAST history. The Villanova women look to claim their seventh-consecutive title in 2020 while the Xavier men are eyeing their fifth crown in seven years.
 
All Championship action will air live on the BIG EAST Digital Network presented by SoFi feautured on the BIG EAST Conference YouTube channel, with wall-to-wall coverage that includes all event preliminaries, finals and awards. Meghan Caffrey will be poolside reporting on the action.
 
The seven-session championships starts Wednesday evening with the prelims of the women’s 3M diving followed by four relay finals: the 800 yard freestyle (women's, men's) and the 200 yard medley relay (women's, men's). The women’s 3M diving finals will take place in between relay finals.
 
The Villanova women hold the top seed time in both opening relays. In the 800-freestyle relay the Wildcats boast a time of 7:22.19 while also holding a top time in the 200-medley relay at a 1:42.40 mark.
 
On the men’s side, Georgetown paves the way as the top seeds in the 800-freestyle (6:42.15) and 200-medley (1:30.57).
 
Live results will be available for each session which can be accessed at BIG EAST.com. Preliminaries for swimming will commence at 10 a.m. ET, while diving prelims start at noon Thursday through Saturday and at 4 p.m. on Wednesday. Finals for both swimming and diving will begin at 6 p.m. each evening.
