#BIGEASTwlax Minute: Villanova Upsets No. 16/13 Navy To Highlight Weekend

Weekend Recap
BIG EAST teams combined for a 7-1 weekend mark, including a 12-9 win for Villanova over No. 16/13 Navy on Saturday. No. 10/11 Denver and Marquette picked up wins on Friday and Sunday, while Old Dominion and Georgetown claimed Saturday victories. Action picks back up on Wednesday as Villanova eyes a second straight top-20 win when it hosts No. 9/9 Princeton at 4 p.m. ET. Georgetown also plays at 4 p.m. on Wednesday as the Hoyas host nearby foe Johns Hopkins.
 
Villanova 12, 16/13 Navy 9
Villanova (2-1) went into Navy–Marine Corps Memorial Stadium on Saturday afternoon and left with a 12-9 upset victory over No. 16/13 Navy. Junior attack Brittany Bruno had a team-high three goals and an assist in the contest, while two other Wildcats, Ashley Lynch and Libby McKenna, tallied two goals apiece. Lynch also had two assists. Villanova controlled the game in almost every statistical category, outshooting the Midshipmen 36-32, collecting 22 ground balls to Navy's 17 and winning the draw control 14-9. Senior Katie Comerford scored the last goal of the first half to set a program record for career points at 184, passing former Wildcat Shannon O'Neil who had held the record with 183 points since 1997.

23/RV Georgetown 12, Drexel 10
The Hoyas thwarted a comeback by Drexel on Saturday in Philadelphia as Michaela Bruno and Natalia Lynch scored four goals apiece to lift Georgetown (2-1) to its second win on the year. Georgetown led 7-4 at the half before four straight goals by the Dragons gave them their first lead of the game, 8-7, with 24 minutes to play. GU scored four of the next five goals, including Lynch’s fourth of the contest which gave Georgetown an 11-9 advantage. The Hoyas outshot the Dragons 32-22 as Micheline Dinardo earned the win in the cage with seven saves.

Old Dominion 12, Radford 6
Tied at 3-3 at halftime, ODU went on a decisive 7-0 run to begin the second stanza, led by Glory Johnson’s hat trick during that stretch. Johnson finished with five points, adding a pair of assists, along with nine draw controls. Old Dominion (3-2) outshot Radford 25-14 over the final half hour to total a 34-28 game advantage. Sabrina Leatherwood made 14 saves to earn the win in the cage for the Monarchs.

10/11 Denver 15, Harvard 6| 10/11 Denver 21, Oregon 7
The Pioneers improved to 4-0 on the year thanks to a pair of home wins this weekend, outscoring Harvard and Oregon by a combined 36-13 margin. Eliza Radochonski sparked the offense in both games, tallying 12 points off nine goals and three assists in the two contests. Quintin Hoch-Bullen was not far behind with five goals and five assists on the weekend, while starting goalkeeper Carson Gregg posted a 6.82 goals against average and picked up both victories. A total of 13 different Pioneers notched a point in the 2-0 stretch, including 11 different goal scorers.

Central Michigan 14, Butler 2
The Butler women's lacrosse team faced their first setback of the season, falling 14-2 to Central Michigan in Mount Pleasant, Mich. The Bulldogs move to 2-1 on the year as the Chippewas even out to 1-1. Ashley Guerra and Layla Tattersfield scored for Butler, which was outshot 29-12 on the afternoon. Amanda Rumsey finished with nine saves for the Bulldogs.

Marquette 16, Niagara 6 | Marquette 18, Canisius 11
The Golden Eagles improved to 3-2 on the season with a pair of home wins over the weekend as 11 different Marquette players recorded a points in victories over Niagara and Canisius. Caroline Peterson had the hot hand on Sunday against Niagara with four goals off of six shots, while Sophia Leva was credited with the win in the cage with six saves over 30 minutes of play. Leva also picked up the win on Friday against Canisius, making nine stops in 30 minutes in the cage. Megan Menzuber was the star on Friday, totaling five points off three goals and two assists.
