Hoyas Sweep Final #BIGEASTswim Weekly Accolades
NEW YORK -- Georgetown’s Drew Carbone and Alexandra Robertson have swept the final BIG EAST Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week awards of the season. Carbone earns his third accolade of the 2019-20 season while Robertson earns her first certificate of her freshman campaign. The Hoyas traveled to Seton Hall over the weekend for a BIG EAST tri meet with the Pirates and Providence. Georgetown came out on top on both the men’s and women’s side.
Villanova men and women participated in two dual meets last week at West Virginia and Penn State. The VU women claimed a 156-144 victory over the Mountaineers before falling to the Nittany Lions on Friday 167.5-93.5. The Wildcat men dropped both meets. Xavier wrapped up regular-season competition with a meet at IUPUI. The Musketeers fell on both the men’s and women’s side. Butler traveled to Eastern Illinois for a tri meet where the Bulldogs won head-to-head over Western Illinois but fell to the Panthers, 140-126.
Male Athlete of the Week
Drew Carbone, Georgetown, Jr., Back/IM, Chelmsford, Mass.
Carbone earns his third BIG EAST Athlete of the Week award after dominating the competition in Georgetown's sweep over Seton Hall (196-155) and Providence (276-68). The junior recorded three individual victories and three relay wins for a total of six triumphs on the meet. Carbone kicked off the meet with a win in the 200 IM with a time of 1:52.22 followed by a sweep of the backstroke events. He won the 100 back with a time of 49.86 and the 200 at a 1:49.41 mark. Carbone swam the opening leg of the 400 medley relay at a 49.36 split and 200-yard medley relay with a time of 23.20. The Chelmsford, Mass., native closed out competition swimming the anchor leg of the 400-yard freestyle relay, overcoming a deficit in the final 100 yards to win by .13 seconds.
Female Athlete of the Week
Alexandra Robertson, Georgetown, Fr., IM, Newton, Mass.
Robertson led the Hoyas to a clean sweep over Seton Hall (231.5-119-5) and Providence (273-79) with three individual victories and two relay wins. The rookie swept the IM races with wins in the 200, touching the wall at 2:06.94. Robertson claimed the 400 IM with a time of 4:29.27. Alexandra closed out her individual victories with a win in the 100-yard freestyle in 53.52 seconds. Robertson took part in two relay-winning squads as the freshman swam the anchor leg of GU's 400-yard medley relay team in 52.36 seconds to claim the victory before swimming the third leg in the 400-yard freestyle relay in which The Hoyas won by three seconds.
