NEW YORK – College softball’s opening day is Friday. Seven of eight BIG EAST teams begin play this weekend with multi-team tournaments taking place around the country. Providence will kick start the 2020 season next weekend.
 
Butler opens its 2020 campaign with five games in Rosemont, Ill., in the Rambler Rambler hosted by Loyola Chicago. The Bulldogs will face Green Bay and Evansville on Friday before taking on Nebraska-Omaha and Loyola Chicago on Saturday. BU will close out the first weekend of action on Sunday with a midday contest against Western Illinois.
 
Creighton will travel south this weekend, competing in the H-E-B Classic in San Antonio, Texas. The Bluejays will meet four teams across five games beginning Friday night with matchups against Toledo and North Dakota. Creighton begins Day 2 with the second meeting with the Rockets followed by a game against Texas Southern. CU wraps up their stay in the Lonestar State with a Sunday morning meeting with tournament host Incarnate Word.
 
BIG EAST preseason favorite, DePaul hits the road to Iowa, opening the season at the UNI Dome Classic, hosted by Northern Iowa. The Blue Demons will battle South Dakota State, South Dakota, Drake and UNI at the season-opening tournament.
 
Georgetown will begin the 2020 slate at the FGCU Kickoff Classic hosted in Fort Meyers, Fla. The Hoyas will play five games over the three-day tournament, including contests against Connecticut, Delaware, Long Island University, FGCU and Boston College.


Reigning BIG EAST regular-season champion, St. John’s season opening tournament takes place in Orlando, Fla. at the University of Central Florida Softball Complex. The Red Storm will meet Clemson, Indiana, Duke and UCF in the Black and Gold Tournament.

Seton Hall will travel to Elon, N.C., for the first of five non-conference tournaments. The Pirates will head to the Elon Classic for four games in two days. The Hall opens the season against Longwood before a meeting with host Elon, and a Sunday doubleheader against Rhode Island.
 
Villanova heads to Florida for the first of three trips to the Sunshine State this season. The Wildcats will get the 2020 season underway at the River City Leadoff in Jacksonville. VU will see action against San Diego State, Nicholls State and host Jacksonville University.
