Weekend Recap
In a weekend in which more than half the games were decided by a single goal, BIG EAST women’s lacrosse teams combined for a 4-3 record, led by Butler’s 2-0 mark with wins over Akron and Kent State. No. 25 Georgetown improved to 3-2 with an overtime win over Delaware, while Marquette split in its cross-country road trip to Arizona which included a win over Fresno State in Tempe. Five of six BIG EAST teams return to the field on Wednesday, including nationally ranked Denver which suffered its first setback of the season on Sunday with a 14-13 heartbreaker to Vanderbilt.
Butler 14, Akron 7 | Butler 18, Kent State 9
The Bulldogs saw 14 different players notch at least a point in the 2-0 weekend, including a team-best eight for Gabryelle Bodine, who also led Butler (4-1) with seven goals. Bodine tallied four points in each game, registering four goals against Kent State and three goals with an assist against Akron. Amanda Rumsey was a force in the cage of the weekend, posting a .579 save percentage and 8.02 goals against average, while Mary Larson led Butler with four caused turnovers in the two-game stretch.

Vanderbilt 14, 10/11 Denver 13
Denver ended its four-game win streak on Sunday afternoon, falling to Vanderbilt 14-13 in Nashville. Denver (4-1) was led by a hot Quintin Hoch-Bullen who netted a career-high seven goals while locking in her first-career sock trick, scoring four of Denver's five goals in the second half. Defensively, Eliza Hacke forced a team-high two turnovers while Sam Thacker notched a season-high five ground balls. Carson Gregg tallied eight saves for DU before Amelia Cole took things over in goal recording one save to close out the contest.

Marquette 18, Fresno State 17
Marquette outlasted Fresno State, 18-17, on Saturday afternoon to complete their trip out west with a 1-1 record. MU trailed 4-3 in the first half before it closed the final 23 minutes of the half on a 9-3 run to go into the break leading 12-7. Steller scored three of her four goals in the first 30 minutes of play. The Golden Eagles started the second half the same way they ended the first, scoring four consecutive goals in the opening 14 minutes to take a 16-7 lead. Lydia Foust and Caroline Steller set career-highs with four goals apiece to pace the offense while Caroline Peterson added her second hat trick in the past three games. The Golden Eagles (4-3) were outshot 42-29 but excellent efforts from Jules Horning (11 saves) and Sophia Leva (nine saves) helped to keep the Bulldogs from coming out on top.

25/- Georgetown 12, Delaware 11
No. 25 Georgetown needed extra time but pulled out the 12-11 overtime victory over Delaware Saturday afternoon at Cooper Field. The Hoyas (3-2) trailed by as much as three goals in the second half, but mounted a comeback to get the win and to improve to 3-2 on the season. Georgetown had three good looks in the first three minutes of overtime, two which were off target and one that was saved by Delaware keeper Kate Brewster. The Hoyas would have another chance and Brewster continued to be tough. On the rebound, Michaela Bruno picked up the ball and sent it to Natalia Lynch. She looked to the middle and found a cutting Ali Diamond who connected for the golden goal in overtime.

Longwood 15, Old Dominion 14
After being down by six goals at one point, Old Dominion (3-3) came back to take the lead with less than six minutes to play, but Longwood regained the advantage and held on to defeat ODU, 15-14. Eight of ODU's 14 goals came on free-position shots, and the Monarchs held the shot advantage (32-31), the ground ball advantage (17-16) and the draw control advantage (17-14). The Monarchs were also successful on 10 of 11 clear attempts. Glory Johnson and Lilly Siskind each scored three goals, while Johnson added an assist and brought down eight draw controls.

Drexel 17, Villanova 9
The Wildcats (2-3) fell to Drexel 17-9 at home on Saturday afternoon in their second straight loss. The Dragon's 17 goals were a season-high for the team and they limited Villanova to its only single-digit score through its first five games.
Six different Wildcats scored in the matchup, led by senior midfielder
Grainger Rosati who recorded a hat trick, followed by junior attack
Brittany Bruno who scored twice. The Wildcats were outshot 31-26, while Drexel held the advantage for ground balls at 15-11 and draw controls at 17-11. Villanova was 12-18 on clear attempts.
