Attack Player of the Week
Jake Carraway, Georgetown, Sr., A (Annapolis, Md.)
Jake Carraway earns his third consecutive Attack Player of the Week nod after contributing to another 2-0 week for Georgetown. Carraway averaged 4.5 goals per game with nine goals last week. In the 14-7 win over Mount St. Mary’s, Carraway scored six times, including a man-up goal and a man-down goal. He nearly matched Mount St. Mary’s total score himself. Against Bellarmine on Saturday, Carraway added another hat trick to the 13-4 victory. He also picked up three ground balls and caused a pair of turnovers. The Hoyas are 5-0 so far this season. Carraway leads the league in goals per game (4.0) and points per game (5.80).
Midfielder of the Week
Matt Campbell, Villanova, So., M (Madison, N.J.)
Villanova’s Matt Campbell scored a game high four goals and an assist to pick up five points during the Wildcats’ 19-10 win over Delaware. Campbell scored on every shot on goal he took against the Blue Hens. Campbell took eight shots in the game. Campbell scored twice in the first period, putting VU up 3-0 and 6-3. Campbell also scored the eighth and 17th goals for Villanova. His second goal was scored man-up for the Wildcats. Villanova is 3-2 on the season.
Defensive Player of the Week
Toby Burgdorf, Providence, Jr., Goalie (Westfield, N.J.)
Providence goalie Toby Burgdorf helped the Friars earn a 13-12 overtime victory over Rhode Island rival Brown on Saturday as he had a career best 16 saves between the pipes. Burgdorf’s performance was good for a .571 save percentage. Burgdorf had seven saves in the third period, which helped the Friars score three goals to Brown’s 1 as Providence took a 10-5 lead. Burgdorf made a key save with 13 seconds left to hold the tie and send the game into overtime. The game-winner was scored by Sean Leahey with 1:16 left in the fifth period. Burgdorf also picked up a ground ball. The Friars are 4-1 this season.
Freshman of the Week
Jake Stegman, Marquette, Fr., A (Naperville, Ill.)
Marquette rookie Jake Stegman came up one point shy of Marquette’s single-game freshman record with six points in Saturday’s close loss to Drexel, 13-11. Stegman’s first goal gave Marquette a 5-3 lead at the end of the first quarter and his final tally tied the game at 8-8 in the third. He ended the game with four assists, one shy of the Golden Eagles’ single game record.
Honor Roll
Jack Hannah, Denver
Hannah scored four goals and had an assist, all in the fourth quarter to orchestrate Denver’s comeback attempt that included an 8-2 margin in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough in a 15-13 loss against No. 4 North Carolina.
Owen McElroy, Georgetown, Jr., G
Georgetown goalie Owen McElroy led the Hoyas to a pair of victories with 23 saves (11.5 per game), 5.18 goals allowed and a .697 save percentage. He had nine saves and allowed seven goals against Mount St. Mary’s. He followed that performance with 14 saves against Bellarmine. He held Bellarmine scoreless in the first and third quarters.
Joe Madsen, St. John’s, Sr., A
Madsen’s seven points (3G, 4A) were a game high last week in the BIG EAST. The Red Storm (2-3) lost 16-11 at Michigan. Madsen leads SJU in scoring with 21 points (12G, 9A).
