UConn’s Polley, Xavier’s Jones Earn Weekly MBB Honors

NEW YORK – Connecticut forward Tyler Polley has been named BIG EAST Player of the Week and Xavier’s Colby Jones has been chosen BIG EAST Freshman of the Week.  Polley led the Huskies to road wins at Marquette and Butler, while Jones helped the Musketeers to victories against St. John’s and Providence. 
 
BIG EAST Player of the Week           
Tyler Polley, Connecticut, F, Sr. – Coming off the bench, Polley led the Huskies to a 2-0 week.  In a 65-54 victory at Marquette, the senior picked up the offense when James Bouknight was injured to score a career-high 23 points, all in the second half.  He shot 8-of-9 from the field, including 5-of-6 from 3-point range.  In a 72-60 win at Butler, the 6-9 forward scored a game-high 19 points, making 5-of-8 from beyond the arc.  For the week, Polley averaged 21.0 points and shot 71.4 percent from 3-point range.
 
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Colby Jones, Xavier, G, Fr. – Jones hit a game-winning 3-pointer with one-tenth of a second left to lift Xavier past Providence 74-73.  In a 69-61 victory against St. John’s, the freshman scored a team-high 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the field.  For the two games, Jones averaged 12.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists, while making 10-of-16 (.625) from the field.
 
BIG EAST Honor Roll
Bryce Nze, Butler, F, Sr. – Averaged 14.0 points and 5.5 rebounds in a 1-1 week. Had a team-high 18 points against UConn.   
 
Denzel Mahoney, Creighton, G-F, Sr. – Averaged 19.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 steals in a 2-0 week.  Had 24 points in a win versus St. John’s (97-79). 
 
Dawson Garcia, Marquette, F, Fr. – Scored 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds against UConn.  Made 7-of-12 from the field and 2-of-3 from 3-point range.
 
David Duke, Providence, G, Jr. – Scored a game-high 30 points, dealt six assists and made 7-of-9 from 3-point range against Xavier.    
 
Jared Rhoden, Seton Hall, F, Jr. – Averaged 14.0 points and 4.0 rebounds in a 1-1 week.  Scored a team-high 18 points in a win at DePaul (76-68).
