DePaul Meets Georgetown Wednesday

On Tuesday, St. John’s defeated Butler and Marquette beat Providence.  The results of the games, left the teams in each contest with identical league records.

St. John’s and Butler are both 2-5 in BIG EAST play after the Johnnies took a 69-57 decision at Carnesecca Arena.  Julian Champagnie scored a game-high 18 points for St. John’s.  The Johnnies shot 57.7 percent from the field in the first half, while building a 41-31 lead by halftime, then held off a Bulldog rally.  Champagnie leads the BIG EAST in scoring with a 20.7 average.  Jair Bolden hit five 3-pointers and finished with 17 points for the Bulldogs.  Butler committed 16 turnovers, while St. John’s had only eight.  The Johnnies are 7-6 overall and the Bulldogs are 3-7.

Marquette placed five players in double figures in its 79-69 victory over Providence.  The result left both teams 3-4 in the BIG EAST and 7-6 overall.  The Golden Eagles’ Dawson Garcia scored a game-high 20 points and grabbed six rebounds.  Koby McEwen’s stat line included 17 points, eight rebounds and five assists.  Although he missed part of the first half with a leg injury, while Marquette was building a double-digit lead, Nate Watson scored a team-high 18 points for the Friars.  David Duke added 17 points and nine assists.   

The lone game on Wednesday’s schedule is DePaul at Georgetown at 8:30 p.m. on FS1.  The Blue Demons and Hoyas will be meeting for the 44th time with the Hoyas owning a 32-11 edge in the series.  The two teams have split the last eight meetings with the home team winning the last four contests.  DePaul is playing its third game in five days.  Georgetown has the top two rebounders in the BIG EAST, Jamorko Pickett (8.7 rpg) and Qudus Wahab (8.1).
