BIG EAST Women’s Basketball Player of the Week
Andra Espinoza-Hunter, Seton Hall, Grad., G
Espinoza-Hunter provided an instant boost for the Pirates, leading The Hall to a 3-0 mark with the top scoring average in the BIG EAST last week at 24.0 points per game. The graduate student guard eclipsed the 20-point mark in all three wins, beginning with 23 points at Butler on Monday, followed by 25 points against Marquette on Friday and ending with 24 points against the Bulldogs on Sunday. All three scoring totals were game highs. Espinoza-Hunter was lights-out from three, connecting on 20-of-30 attempts for an average of 6.7 made triples per game. She added 5.3 rebounds per contest and shot .585 from the field overall. Espinoza-Hunter is the first Pirate to claim BIG EAST Player of the Week honors this season.
BIG EAST Women’s Basketball Freshman of the Week
Kelsey Ransom, Georgetown, Fr., G
Ransom was the BIG EAST’s top scoring and rebounding rookie last week as the Georgetown freshman guard averaged 11.0 points and 6.0 rebounds in games at Butler and against No. 19/22 DePaul. Ransom’s week was highlighted by a team-high 13 points against the nationally ranked Blue Demons. She added seven rebounds and two assists in that contest. Ransom is the first BIG EAST Freshman of the Week for the Hoyas since five-time honoree Dionna White last won on Feb. 8, 2016.
BIG EAST Women’s Basketball Weekly Honor Roll
Okako Adika, Butler, Jr., G/F
Adika stuffed the stat sheet for the Bulldogs last week, averaging 14.3 points, 7.7 rebounds, 2.0 assists and .459 shooting. The junior scored in double figures in all three games, including a team-high 18 points at Seton Hall on Sunday.
Sonya Morris, DePaul, Jr., G
Morris led the 19
th-ranked Blue Demons to a 2-0 week, averaging 21.5 points, 4.5 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 2.5 steals in wins over St. John’s and at Georgetown. Morris highlights included 26 points against the Hoyas and nine assists against the Red Storm.
Selena Lott, Marquette, Sr., G
Lott averaged 18.5 points and 6.5 rebounds in a 1-1 week for the Golden Eagles. Lott’s week was highlighted by a 30-point, five-rebound showing in a nationally televised win at St. John’s on Sunday.
Qadashah Hoppie, St. John’s, Sr., G
Against the No. 2 and 3 teams in the BIG EAST standings, Hoppie averaged 21.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.5 steals. Her week was highlighted by a 28-point outing at No. 19/22 DePaul on Wednesday. She shot .500 from the field and .600 from deep against the Blue Demons and Marquette.
