#BIGEASTmbb Minute: St. John's Rallies To Win At UConn

Two Games Set for Tuesday

After trailing for nearly 36 minutes, St. John’s rallied to win 74-70 at Connecticut in an afternoon contest on MLK Day.

A basket by Marcellus Earlington with 4:18 left gave the Johnnies a 64-63 lead. Earlington finished with 15 points.  St. John’s (8-7, 3-6 BIG EAST) made 6-of-9 from 3-point range in the second half, while capturing its first road win of the season.  Freshman Posh Alexander made all-around contributions with 18 points, six assists, three steals and strong defensive play.  UConn (7-2, 4-2 BIG EAST) was led by guards RJ Cole and Tyrese Martin, who scored 18 and 14 points, respectively.  The Huskies played their third straight game without James Booknight who is recovering from elbow surgery.

Tuesday’s league schedule shows two games.  Butler visits DePaul for a 7 p.m. ET tip at Wintrust Arena on CBS Sports Network.  Butler is coming off a 70-66 overtime win over Creighton on Saturday, while DePaul registered a 77-58 non-league victory against Valparaiso.  The Bulldogs (4-7, 3-5 BIG EAST), who will be looking for their first road win of the season, committed only seven turnovers against Creighton.  The Blue Demons (2-4, 0-4 BIG EAST) are in the midst of playing five of six games at home.  In the 14 meetings between the two teams as BIG EAST members, Butler holds a 12-2 edge in the series.

When Villanova hosts Seton Hall at 9 p.m. on FS1, it will be the Wildcats’ first game action since Dec. 23.  Villanova (8-1, 3-0 BIG EAST) is ranked No. 3 in both national polls.  The Wildcats have been ranked in the AP Top 25 for 130 of the last 138 weeks. The Pirates (9-5, 6-2 BIG EAST) have won eight of their last 10 games, but have not played since Jan. 2, a 76-68 win at DePaul.  Coincidentally, Seton Hall’s only two wins against a team ranked No. 3 nationally are against Villanova in the 2014 and 2016 BIG EAST Tournaments.  The Pirates have won their last 15 BIG EAST games when holding their opponent under 70 points.
