Creighton, St. John's Win; Providence Prevails in OT

The success of road teams in BIG EAST play continued on Wednesday with Creighton rallying to win at Seton Hall and St. John’s capturing a victory at DePaul.  Providence was only team to win in its home jerseys, beating Marquette in overtime.

Home teams are 25-21 (.543) after Wednesday’s results.

In a game of runs at Prudential Center, Seton Hall put together a 54-point first half, but No. 17 Creighton closed the contest with a 14-2 spurt and went home with an 85-81 victory.  The Bluejays’ Mitch Ballock, who had a combined 10 points in his previous two games, poured in a season-high 29, which included 7-of-12 from 3-point range.  Creighton (12-4, 8-3 BIG EAST) shot 17-of-35 from beyond arc.  For Seton Hall (9-7, 6-4 BIG EAST), Bryce Aiken came off the bench to score 21 points in only 18 minutes.  Myles Cale added 20 points and nine rebounds.

St. John’s has won four of its last five games after an 81-68 victory at DePaul.  The Johnnies (10-7, 4-6 BIG EAST) had four players score at least 15 points led by Vince Cole’s 18-point output.  Julian Champagnie had 16 points and six rebounds.  The Blue Demons (3-6, 1-6 BIG EAST) were led by Charlie Moore, who scored a game-high 21 points.  Pauly Paulicap contributed 16 points, 16 rebounds and two blocked shots.     

David Duke was the catalyst behind Providence’s 72-63 overtime victory against Marquette.  The junior filled his stat line with 31 points, six rebounds, six assists and three steals.  He also scored the first five points in overtime.  A.J. Reeves added 13 points for the Friars (9-7, 5-5 BIG EAST).  Providence is 3-0 in overtime games this season.  Koby McEwen led the Golden Eagles (8-8, 4-6 BIG EAST) with 13 points.
