Seton Hall’s Mamukelashvili, Marquette’s Garcia Take Weekly MBB Honors

NEW YORK – Seton Hall’s Sandro Mamukelashvili has been named BIG EAST Player of the Week and Marquette’s Dawson Garcia has been tabbed BIG EAST Freshman of the Week.  Mamukelashvili helped the Pirates with all-around contributions in a 2-0 week.  Garcia made key contributions to support a comeback league road win.

BIG EAST Player of the Week
Sandro Mamukelashvili, Seton Hall, F, Sr. – In a 2-0 week, Mamukelashvili averaged 21.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists in wins at Xavier and at home against Butler.  The senior posted a team-high 18 points, seven rebounds and three steals in an 85-68 victory at Xavier.  In a 68-60 win against Butler, he registered game highs of 24 points, nine rebounds and six assists.  For the season, the 6-11 forward is averaging 18.2 points per game. 

BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Dawson Garcia, Marquette, F, Fr. – Garcia helped Marquette rally from a 16-point halftime deficit to win 64-60 at Georgetown.  He grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds, scored nine points and had only one turnover in 34 minutes of playing time.  For the season, the Preseason BIG EAST Freshman of the Year leads all league freshman players with a 12.7 scoring average and a 6.7 rebounding mark.   
BIG EAST Honor Roll
Myles Tate, Butler, G, Fr. – Averaged 15.0 points and 4.5 assists in games against Providence and Seton Hall.  Had only two turnovers in 65 minutes of play. 
Damien Jefferson, Creighton, F, Sr. – Posted 18 points, eight rebounds, six steals and three assists in a victory at Providence (67-65).
Tyrese Martin, Connecticut, G, Jr. – Registered game highs of 22 points and 10 rebounds in win against DePaul (82-61).
Jamal Cain, Marquette, F, Sr. – In a win at Georgetown, scored a game-high 25 points on 10-of-15 shooting from the floor and 4-of-5 from 3-point range.  Also had six rebounds.
David Duke, Providence, G, Jr. – In a 1-1 week, averaged 17.5 points, 9.5 rebounds and 6.0 assists.  Had 22 points, 13 boards and eight assists in a win over Butler (71-55).
