#BIGEASTmbb Minute: UConn's Comeback Defeats Marquette

Three Games Set for Wednesday

In the lone BIG EAST game Tuesday night, Connecticut rallied from an 18-point deficit to score a 65-54 victory at Marquette.

Marquette (6-6, 2-4 BIG EAST) led 31-23 at halftime and began the second half with a 12-2 run to increase its lead to 43-25.  The Huskies (5-1, 2-1 BIG EAST) were hampered by James Bouknight’s elbow injury suffered in the first half, but reserve forward Tyler Polley exploded to score all of his career-high 23 points in the second half to spark UConn. Isaiah Whaley added 15 points and 13 rebounds.  Marquette freshman Dawson Garcia posted team highs of 20 points and 11 boards.

A three-game Wednesday starts with Georgetown playing at Butler at 7 p.m. ET on FS1.  Amazingly, the road team has won the last nine meetings in this series.  The Hoyas (3-6, 1-4) took last year’s contest at Hinkle Fieldhouse 73-66.  Bulldog guard Aaron Thompson has missed the last five games this season with a knee injury and is questionable for tonight.  He also did not play in either meeting with Georgetown last year.

St. John’s has had a 17-day layoff going into its game at Xavier at 8 p.m. on CBS Sports Network.  The Johnnies (6-4, 1-3 BIG EST) have lost 11 straight to the Musketeers (8-2, 1-2 BIG EAST) in the series, the longest losing streak against a single opponent in St. John’s history.  St. John’s will be aiming to win consecutive league games for the first time under second-year coach Mike Anderson. Xavier’s Paul Scruggs leads the league in assists with a 6.8 average and is third in steals with a 1.9 mark.

Seton Hall visits Creighton for an FS1 telecast at 9 p.m.  The Pirates (8-4, 5-1 BIG EAST) have been road warriors in BIG EAST play, winning nine of their last 11 conference road games dating to last season.  The only Seton Hall team to start league play 6-1 or better was last year’s squad that began 8-0.  Creighton’s No. 7 ranking in this week’s AP poll matches the best in school history.  The Bluejays (8-2, 4-1 BIG EAST) won both meetings last year, including a 77-60 decision in the season finale which forced a three-way tie for the league title and gave Creighton the top seed in the BIG EAST Tournament.

Going into Wednesday, home teams are only 12-11 in BIG EAST play.
