NEW YORK – Creighton guard Marcus Zegarowski has been selected BIG EAST Player of the Week and St. John’s guard Posh Alexander has been named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week. Both players led their teams to 2-0 weeks away from home.
BIG EAST Player of the Week
Marcus Zegarowski, Creighton, G, Jr. – Zegarowski averaged 18.5 points, 4.0 assists and 3.5 rebounds, while shooting 53.3 percent from 3-point range. He helped the Bluejays at critical times in an 85-81 win at Seton Hall and a 69-62 victory at DePaul. Against Seton Hall, he made the go-ahead 3-pointer with 1:07 left. Against DePaul, he made four free throws on a game-closing 10-2 run in the final 2:08.
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Posh Alexander, St. John’s, G, Fr. – Alexander sparked St. John’s to a 2-0 week on the road, averaging 15.0 points, 4.5 steals, 4.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists. He shot 50 percent from the field, making 12-of-24. In Sunday’s 75-73 victory at Marquette, Alexander netted 15 points, dished three assists and made a collegiate-high six steals. The freshman leads the BIG EAST in steals with a 2.7 average.
BIG EAST Honor Roll
Chudier Bile, Georgetown, F, Fr. – Posted team highs of 19 points and nine rebounds and hit a free throw with five seconds left in a one-point victory over Providence (73-72).
A.J. Reeves, Providence, G, Jr. – Averaged 20.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists in a 1-1 week. Shot 8-of-20 from 3-point range. Had a season-high 28 points at Georgetown.
Julian Champagnie, St. John’s, F, So. – Averaged 19.0 points and 6.5 rebounds in a 2-0 week. Had 22 points and seven rebounds in a win at Marquette (75-73).
Jeremiah Robinson-Earl, Villanova, F, So. – Scored a game-high 23 points on 8-of-12 shooting and grabbed five rebounds in a win at Seton Hall (80-72).
Paul Scruggs, Xavier, G, Sr. – Scored a game-high 24 points, which included 9-of-13 shooting, in a win at Butler (68-55). Scored 13 of his points in the final 9:16 which included a stretch of nine straight. Also had seven rebounds and three assists.
