In Tuesday’s action, Butler overcame a 16-point first-half deficit and ended St. John’s six-game winning streak, squeezing out a win in overtime. Creighton turned the tables on Georgetown, avenging a loss to the Hoyas six days earlier.
At Hinkle Fieldhouse, Butler (7-10, 6-8 BIG EAST) earned a 76-73 overtime win. The Bulldogs’ Aaron Thompson finished with 17 points and 10 assists. His basket with two seconds left in regulation forced the extra session. Bryce Nze also posted a double-double with 19 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Julian Champagnie led St. John’s (13-8, 7-7 BIG EAST) with 19 points and 10 boards.
Creighton avenged its loss against Georgetown by gaining a 63-48 victory at McDonough Arena. The 19th-ranked Bluejays (15-5, 11-4 BIG EAST) held the Hoyas to the lowest scoring total by a league opponent in Creighton’s eight seasons as a BIG EAST member. The Bluejays also set a school record with 19 steals. Christian Bishop posted team highs of 17 points and nine rebounds. Georgetown (5-10, 3-7 BIG EAST) was led by Jamorko Pickett’s 16 points and 12 boards.

Providence (9-10, 5-8 BIG EAST) and UConn (8-4, 5-4 BIG EAST) will be meeting for the first time since March 9, 2013 when the Huskies won 63-59 in overtime at Gampel Pavilion. PC’s Nate Watson is coming off a career-high 30 points against St. John’s on Saturday. He ranks third in the BIG EAST in scoring with a 17.9 average.
Villanova won the first meeting this season against Marquette 85-68 on Dec. 23. The Wildcats (12-2, 7-1 BIG EAST) have been led recently by forward Jermaine Samuels, who had a career-high 32 points in Sunday’s 84-74 win against Georgetown. The last four games for the Golden Eagles (9-10, 5-8 BIG EAST) have been decided by three points or less or in overtime.
Going into Wednesday, the home and visiting teams each have 31 wins in BIG EAST play.
