Providence’s Duke, UConn’s Sanogo Take Weekly MBB Honors

NEW YORK – Providence guard David Duke has been named BIG EAST Player of the Week and Connecticut forward Adama Sanogo has been tabbed BIG EAST Freshman of the Week.  Duke helped the Friars to a pair of victories.  Sanogo contributed to a 1-1 week for the Huskies. 
 
BIG EAST Player of the Week           
David Duke, Providence, G, Jr. –  Duke led Providence to a 2-0 week by averaging 17.0 points, 9.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.0 steals.  The junior guard scored 17 points in a home win against Connecticut (70-59) when his seven-point spurt to start the second half gave PC the lead for good.  In a road victory at DePaul (57-47), he tied his career high with 13 rebounds.  Duke earns Player of the Week honors for the second time this season.
 
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Adama Sanogo, Connecticut, F, Fr. – Sanogo was an inside force in a 1-1 week on the road for the Huskies.  He pulled down eight rebounds in an 80-72 win at Xavier and a 70-59 defeat at Providence.  Sanogo also scored nine points and blocked five shots against the Friars and had four points and one block against the Musketeers.     
 
BIG EAST Honor Roll
R.J. Cole, Connecticut, G, Jr. – Averaged 19.0 points, 6.5 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals in a 1-1 week.  Had 24 points and seven assists in a win at Xavier (80-72).   
 
Christian Bishop, Creighton, F, Jr. – Averaged 16.5 points and 9.5 boards, while shooting 77.8 percent from the floor in a 2-0 week.  Had 16 points and 10 rebounds in a win against Villanova (86-70).   
       
Jared Rhoden, Seton Hall, F, Jr. – Recorded a game-high 20 points, seven rebounds, four assists and two steals in a win against Marquette (57-51).  
     
Jeremiah Robinson-Earl, Villanova, F, So. – Averaged 17.5 points and 7.0 rebounds in a 1-1 week.  Scored 27 points on 10-of-11 shooting in a win against Marquette (96-64).    
 
Zach Freemantle, Xavier, F, So. – Produced the “highest” double-double in the league this season with career highs of 30 points and 15 rebounds in a loss to UConn (80-72).
