#BIGEASTmbb Minute: UConn, St. John's Win At Home

Coach Mike Anderson Gains 400th Career Victory

The pair of Tuesday night games included four teams in the middle of the BIG EAST standings.  The winners moved to the top of the logjam.

UConn welcomed James Bouknight back after an eight-game absence due to an elbow injury and defeated Providence 73-61.  Bouknight and Tyrese Martin each scored 18 points for the Huskies (10-5, 7-5 BIG EAST) in the victory at Gampel Pavilion.  Bouknight came off the bench and played 24 minutes.  Martin added seven rebounds.  Freshman Alyn Breed was high for the Friars (11-11, 7-9 BIG EAST) with 14 points.

St. John’s (14-8, 8-7 BIG EAST) placed five players in double figures in its 93-84 win against Xavier (11-4, 4-4 BIG EAST) at Carnesecca Arena.  The Johnnies’ Julian Champagnie led the way with 21 points.  Posh Alexander flirted with a triple-double, finishing with 15 points, nine assists and eight rebounds.  Xavier’s Zach Freemantle posted his second straight double-double with game highs of 22 points and 10 rebounds.

Wednesday’s schedule is a repeat of Tuesday’s slate – a pair of games on FS1 at 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. ET.

In the first game, Butler hosts Marquette at Hinkle Fieldhouse.  The Bulldogs (7-11, 6-9 BIG EAST) are one game ahead of the Golden Eagles (9-12, 5-10 BIG EAST) in the standings.  Butler starts a stretch of three of four contests at home where they are 5-2 in BIG EAST play.  Marquette wants to end a three-game losing skid.  The Golden Eagles topped the Bulldogs 70-67 on Feb. 2 in the first meeting this season.

The nightcap has DePaul playing at Seton Hall.  The Pirates (12-8, 9-5 BIG EAST sit in third place and own a three-game winning streak.  They won the first meeting 76-68 in Chicago on Jan. 9.  The Hall has won its last 17 BIG EAST games when holding its opponent under 70 points.  DePaul wants to end a four-game losing streak.  Guard Javon Freeman-Liberty has been a bright spot, averaging 13.4 points and 5.3 rebounds.

Going into Wednesday, home teams own a 38-33 (.535) edge in BIG EAST play.
