NEW YORK – League winners from the weekend, Libery and Old Dominion split the BIG EAST field hockey weekly awards on Monday.
BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week
Jill Bolton, Liberty, Sr., F (Souderton, Pa.)
Liberty senior forward Jill Bolton marked 10 points off three goals and four assists in 2-0 league weekend for the Lady Flames. Bolton took 12 shots, 11 of them were on target. In the fist game on Saturday, Bolton set a career-high with seven points (2G, 2A) as Liberty defeated Villanova, 7-1. In Sunday’s 7-1 victory, Bolton had one goal and one assist, scoring on a reverse into the right side. Through three games in 2021, Bolton leads the team in assists (4) and is second on the team in points (12) and goals (4).
BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
Cam MacGillivray, Old Dominion, R-Jr., GK (Calgary, Alberta)
Old Dominion keeper Cam MacGillivray made six saves and allowed two goals over 140 minutes of action which resulted in two conference wins over Temple last weekend. MacGillivray stopped four shots on Saturday, a 3-2 shootout victory for the Monarchs. The junior ended the shootout with a save from the penalty spot, an attempt from the seven-yard mark. On Sunday, MacGillivray preserved the 1-0 win making two saves.
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Marlon de Bruijne, Old Dominion, Fr., F (Den Bosch, Netherlands)
Old Dominion freshman forward Marlon de Bruijne scored both of the Monarch’s goals in regulation in a 3-2 shootout victory over Temple on Saturday. The rookie also scored twice in the shootout, including the decisive attempt. In the two-win weekend, de Bruijne took nine shots, seven on target. ODU defeated Temple, 1-0 on Sunday two sweep the weekend.
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Bethany Dykema, Liberty, So., D
Dykema had her first goal of the season Sunday and had two assists for a career-best four points in Liberty’s 7-1 triumph over Villanova. Dykema and the Liberty defense limited Villanova to 13 total shots and two penalty corners in two BIG EAST wins.
Cristina Carotenuto, Temple, Sr., G
Carotenuto made nine saves for a .750 save percentage in a 0-2 weekend aginst Liberty. She allowed for just three goals, one in a shootout, for a 1.50 goals against average.
Claire Borman, Villanova, So., G
Borman had a career-high 11 saves in the season-opener against Liberty on Saturday. For the weekend, she allowed 11 goals and made 18 saves despite two losses.
