BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week
Christopher Roman, Providence, Jr., M (Glastonbury, Conn.)
Providence junior midfielder Christopher Roman had three points in a 4-0 victory over in-state rival Rhode Island on Saturday. Roman scored his second career goal, in the 62nd minute of action, putting the Friars ahead 3-0. He also assisted the eventual game-winning goal, at 53:00 on the clock. Roman’s goal was the only shot he took for the outing.
BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
Felix Metzler, Connecticut, Jr., M (Frankfurt, Germany)
UConn junior midfielder Felix Metzler produced on both sides of the pitch for the Huskies in a 3-0 victory over Sacred Heart. Metzler played all 90 minutes of action and helped anchor a defense that held Sacred Heart to just four shot attempts. Offensively, Metzler scored the second of three goals, as he drilled a straight-line shot into the back of the cage. His goal was scored in the 59th minute.
BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week
Nathan Schnur, Creighton, Fr. (Evergreen, Co.)
Creighton rookie Nathan Schnur had an immediate impact for the Bluejays, as he became the second freshman in three season to tally a season-opening victory in net as a true freshman. This win came with three points in the Midwest Division league standings for Creighton as the Bluejays defeated the Golden Eagles of Marquette 2-1 in double overtime on Saturday. Schnur made two stops in the 105 minutes of his goalie debut.
Freshman of the Week
Jake Barrett, Seton Hall, Fr., D (England)
Seton Hall rookie Jake Barrett played all 90 minutes to help anchor a Pirate defense to a 1-0 win over La Salle. He also contributed offensively as the lone goal, the game-winner, scored in the seventh minute. La Salle was limited to five shots on goal. The Pirates played the last 43 minutes down a player. Barrett started and played 78 minutes of Seton Hall’s 3-3 draw at New Jersey Institute of Technology.
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Jake Ronneberg, Creighton, So., M
Ronneberg scored the golden goal for Creighton in the double overtime win over Marquette, earning three key points for CU in the Midwest Division. Ronneberg had three shot attempts in 91 minutes of action.
Drew Nuelle, DePaul, RS-Sr., GK
Nuelle went 0-0-2 in goal last week for the Blue Demons, making 15 total saves and allowing just two goals for a 0.82 goals against average. Nuelle made nine saves, four in the final 20 in a 0-0 draw against Red Line Rival Loyola-Chicago. Nuelle made a pair of game-saving stops in the 95th and 102nd minutes.
Chandler Hallwood, Marquette, RS-So., GK
Hallwood saved a career-best seven shots on Saturday against Creighton. Despite his best attempts, he allowed two to get by, one in the 105th minute.
Tani Oluwaseyi, St. John’s, Jr., F/M
Oluwaseyi scored the game-winner in St. John’s 1-0 season-opening victory over Saint Joseph’s. Oluwaseyi’s goal came in the 64th minute.
Karsen Henderlong, Xavier, So., F
Henderlong scored one of Xavier’s two goals in a 2-1 win over Bellarmine on Feb. 17. His goal was the game-winner, coming in the 22nd minute and putting XU ahead 2-0.
