Three Teams Share Latest #BIGEASTwsoc Weekly Awards

Butler, Providence, St. John’s earn wins and honors.

BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week
Katie Soderstrom, Butler, Jr., M
In a 2-0 week for the Bulldogs, Soderstrom totaled seven points off three goals and an assist. The junior scored three goals in a 4-1 win over Dayton on Sunday, marking just the second hat trick by a BIG EAST player this season and first to come against a Division I foe. She also notched an assist against Marian in a 9-2 win on Wednesday.
 
BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
Alexis Rothmann, Providence, So., M/D
Rothmann anchored a Providence defense which allowed just two shots and one corner kick in Sunday’s win over intra-state foe Bryant. The Friars scored their second straight shutout win and have now outscored their opponents by a 6-0 margin. PC outshot the Bulldogs 30-2, including 14-2 on target. Rothmann added two shots on the afternoon, with one landing on target.
 
BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week
Emma Bodmer, Providence, Fr., GK
Bodmer earns her second straight top goalkeeper honor after earning her second clean sheet of the season with two saves against Bryant on Sunday. The Friars beat their Ocean State rivals 4-0 on Sunday.  
 
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Ava Collins, St. John’s, Fr., M
Collins had an impressive debut for the Red Storm, registering four points off a goal and two assists in a 6-1 win over Albany on Sunday. Collins assisted on Jessica Garziano’s score in the 19th minute before assisting on Maia Cabrera’s game winner in the 37th. She capped her first collegiate contest with a goal in the 86th.

Justina Gaynor, Butler, Fr., M/D: scored a goal in each win last week, including the game-winner against Dayton on Sunday
Kess Elmore, UConn, R-Jr., F: scored the game-winner against Rhode Island in Sunday’s season opener
Randi Palacios, UConn, R-Sr., GK: made one save to earn the shutout victory in Sunday’s season opening win over Rhode Island
Kyla Gallagher, Providence, Fr., F: scored the game-winner against Bryant on Sunday to help keep the Friars unbeaten (2-0-0) on the year
Jessica Garziano, St. John’s, So., M: notched a goal and assist in emphatic 6-1 win in Sunday’s season opener against Albany
