BIG EAST Male Athlete of the Week
Fran San Andres, Marquette, RS-So. (Madrid, Spain)
San Andres combines for 9-1 in singles and doubles action through seven competitions for the Marquette Golden Eagles. He is unbeaten in singles competition this year to date going 1-0 at the No. 1 spot and 3-0 at No. 2. In doubles action, San Andres has had two partners. He is unbeaten at the No. 1 doubles flight with partner Luis Heredia Gomez winning his last three matches. Playing at No. 1 with partner Stefan Dragovic he is 2-1. In his first-ever appearance at No. 1, he clinched the team victory for Marquette over IUPUI (Jan. 29).
 
BIG EAST Female Athlete of the Week
Kate Krueger, Creighton, So. (Omaha, Neb.)
Creighton sophomore Kate Krueger helped the Bluejays to a 3-1 record through four contests this season. Krueger boasts a 6-1 combined record, 3-1 at No. 1 singles and 3-1 at No. 1 doubles while teaming up with Sarah Wilcox. Her doubles victories against Missouri State (Feb. 7) and Wyoming (Feb. 20) each clinched the doubles point. Her lone singles loss of the season was to the 2019 OVC Women’s Tennis Player of the Year Rachel Papavasilopoulos of Eastern Illinois, who has won her last 17 matches dating back to April 2019.
 
Notable Performances:
  • Butler’s Michael Karr is off to a 3-0 start for the Bulldogs in singles play. All of his victories have come in straight sets.
  • Bulldog teammate Natalie Boesing is acing her rookie debut as she is unbeaten at No. 1 singles (3-0) and No. 1 doubles (2-0). The Butler women are 2-3 this season.
  • DePaul junior Vito Tonejc is a combined 6-1 this season (3-1 at No. 1 and No. 2 singles and 3-1 at No. 1/2 doubles) helping the Blue Demons to a 3-1 season so far.
  • Xavier sophomore Kat Lyman is 6-0 in singles play on the season going 3-0 in both the No. 2 and No. 3 spots to help XU to a 5-1 record. Lyman picked up the match-securing point in the 5-2 win over UIC and helped secure the doubles point and picked up the first singles point in the Musketeers 5-2 win over Miami.
