#BIGEASTmbb Minute: Marquette Holds Off Butler

Three Games Set for Wednesday

In the only game on Tuesday, Marquette held off a furious Butler rally and picked up a 70-67 victory at Fiserv Forum.

D.J. Carton and Koby McEwen each scored 18 points for the Golden Eagles (9-9, 5-7 BIG EAST), who ended a three-game losing streak.  Marquette shot 61.5 percent from the field.  The Bulldogs (5-10, 4-8 BIG EAST) trailed 50-32 with 12:20 left before making their push.  Newcomer Bo Hodges had 15 points and 12 rebounds in his second game.  Chuck Harris added 16 points, including 4-of-5 from 3-point range.

Wednesday’s three-game slate includes two matchups of old-time conference members.  Seton Hall visits Providence for the 109th meeting between the two teams.  FS1 will televise at 7 p.m. ET.  Eight of the last 11 meetings have been decided by single digits.  Both teams are 9-8 overall.  The Pirates are 6-5 in BIG EAST play, while the Friars are 5-6.  Seton Hall has won 10 of its last 14 league road games.  PC has played 11 of its 17 games away from home.

St. John’s hosts No. 3 Villanova at Carnesecca Arena at 9 p.m. on CBS Sports Network in a battle of the league’s two hottest teams.  The Wildcats (11-1, 6-0 BIG EAST) have won nine straight, while the Johnnies (11-7, 5-6 BIG EAST) have taken four in a row.  The Wildcats will be the highest ranked team to play in Carnesecca since second-ranked Syracuse visited in 1979-80, the first season of the BIG EAST.  Villanova and St. John’s have met 122 times.

Also at 9 p.m., Georgetown plays at Creighton on FS1.  With a win, the Bluejays (13-4, 9-3 BIG EAST), ranked 15th this week by AP, would be 10-3 in league play and have their second best start in the BIG EAST since an 11-2 beginning in 2013-14, the first season of realignment.  The Hoyas (4-8, 2-5 BIG EAST) are coming off a 73-72 home win over Providence and will be looking for their first road win this season.

Home teams are only 27-25 (.519) going into Wednesday.
