Creighton’s Webel, Xavier’s Zwack Earn First 2021 #BIGEASTbase Awards

BIG EAST Player of the Week
David Webel, Creighton, Jr., OF (Coral Gables, Fla.)
Creighton junior outfielder David Webel went 9-for-16 (.562) scoring four times with three doubles and three RBI in a 2-2 start for Creighton against Lipscomb and Belmont. Webel, the Bluejays leadoff, also drew a pair of walks and posted a .611 on-base percentage. He led the league through the first two weeks of action in batting average, on-base percentage, hits, total bases (14) and doubles (3). His .875 slugging ranked third. The Furman transfer collected at least two hits in each of his four games with CU.
 
BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week
Nick Zwack, Xavier, Sr., LHP (Monticello, Minn.)
Xavier senior lefty Zwack has earned a 0.00 ERA over 11.2 innings pitched over two starts. In a 2-0 victory at Texas A&M on Saturday, Feb. 20, Zwack went for a scoreless 5.0 innings in the start, not giving up a hit while striking out eight. The senior retired the first seven batters he faced in order and only allowed four base runners, on three walks and one hit-by-pitch. In last weekend’s outing against Wofford, the lefty was on the mound for 6.2 innings, giving up five hits and four walks. Xavier couldn’t produce offensively and while the Musketeers lost, 5-2, Zwack recorded a no-decision. His stat line for the first two weeks includes five hits, nine strikeouts and seven walks.  
 
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Reggie Crawford, UConn, Fr., 1B/LHP
Crawford led the league in RBI over the first two weeks of action, knocking in nine runs for the Huskies. Through six games, Crawford is 8-for-24 (.333). In UConn’s 10-9 win at Virginia, Crawford went 1-for-4 with two runs and two walks.
Austin Peterson, UConn, Jr., RHP
Peterson has had two appearances for UConn, pitching 9.2 innings and striking out 10. He is 1-0 on the season with a 1.86 ERA. In the Huskies 10-7 win at Southern Mississippi Peterson went 6.0 innings with eight strikeouts and just two hits, allowing for one run.
David Glancy, St. John’s, R-Fr., OF
Hit .500 in the Red Storm’s season-opening sweep of UMass Lowell.  Left the yard twice and drove in six runs.  Also walked twice to reach base at a .583 clip.  Slugged a league-leading 1.100 on the weekend.
Ian Murphy, St. John’s, R-So., RHP
Murphy threw 6.0 scoreless innings in the Saturday win over UMass Lowell.  Allowed only three runners to reach base, coughing up a single, a walk and a hit-by-pitch.  Struck out eight batters, one shy of his career high.
Gordon Graceffo, Villanova, Jr., RHP
Pitched seven innings and departed the game with a 3-2 lead before taking an no-decision in the season-opener against Radford. Graceffo struck out four and walked two. He has logged 12 consecutive starts.
