UConn's Cole, Butler's Harris Take Weekly MBB Honors

NEW YORK – A pair of guards, Connecticut’s R.J. Cole and Butler’s Chuck Harris, earned weekly men’s basketball honors while helping their teams to 2-0 weeks.  Cole was named BIG EAST Player of the Week.  He led UConn to wins at Georgetown and against Marquette.  Harris was tabbed BIG EAST Freshman of the Week for his contributions in Butler victories over Seton Hall and Villanova.     

BIG EAST Player of the Week           
R.J. Cole, Connecticut, G, Jr. – Cole sparked UConn to a 2-0 week by averaging 19.0 points, 5.0 assists and 4.0 rebounds.  In a 70-57 win at Georgetown, he had 17 points, seven assists, six steals, five rebounds and no turnovers.  Cole helped the Huskies to an 80-62 win over Marquette by netting a season-high 21 points with three rebounds and three assists. For the two games, he shot 56.7 percent from the field.

BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Chuck Harris, Butler, G, Fr. – In a 2-0 week, Harris averaged 17.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists while shooting 50 percent from the field. He scored a game-high 20 points in Butler’s 73-61 win over Villanova.  He made 4-of-9 from 3-point range and added five rebounds and four assists.  It marked his fourth 20-point game of the season. In a 61-52 win against Seton Hall, Harris had 14 points and tied collegiate highs with six rebounds and five assists.  

BIG EAST Honor Roll
James Bouknight, Connecticut, G, So. – In a 2-0 week, averaged 22.0 points and was the team’s high scorer in wins over Georgetown (20 pts.) and Marquette (24 pts.).  Shot 53.1 percent from the floor.   
     
Marcus Zegarowski, Creighton, G, Jr. – Averaged 14.0 points, 7.0 assists and 3.0 rebounds in a 1-1 week.  Had 15 points and 10 assists in a loss at Xavier (77-69).        
    
Dawson Garcia, Marquette, F, Fr. – Averaged 21.0 points and 9.5 rebounds in a 1-1 week.  In a win at North Carolina (83-70) had 24 points and 11 boards.     

David Duke, Providence, G, Jr. – In a victory over Xavier (83-68), flirted with a triple-double, finishing with 18 points, nine rebounds and nine assists.          
Paul Scruggs, Xavier, G, Sr. – Averaged 22.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists in a 1-1 week.  In a win against Creighton (77-69), had 23 points on 9-of-13 shooting to go with seven rebounds, five assists and two steals.
