BIG EAST Softball Player of the Week
Briana Marcelino, UConn, Sr., INF
Marcelino batted .417 with three home runs, one double and five RBI in a five-game weekend for UConn in Waco, Texas. The senior shined in the Huskies upset of 21
st-ranked Baylor, going 2-for-2 from the plate with a homer, two walks, three runs and two RBI. She was also 2-for-2 in Saturday’s win over Lamar. She totaled a .563 on base percentage for the weekend.
BIG EAST Softball Pitcher of the Week
Krista Dalgarn, DePaul, Sr., P
Dalgarn posted a 2.39 ERA over three appearances and 14.2 innings pitched against Ball State, Southern Illinois and Saint Louis. The senior struck out 14, including nine in Friday’s win over Ball State. She did not allow an earned run in four innings of work against Saint Louis on Sunday as the Blue Demons scored an 8-5 win.
BIG EAST Softball Freshman of the Week
Jana Sanden, UConn, Fr., INF
Sanden batted .357 with two RBI and two doubles over five games last week. In Saturday’s win over No. 21 Baylor, the rookie was 2-for-3 with two RBI and a double, while also reaching base on a walk.
BIG EAST Softball Weekly Honor Roll
Payton Kinney, UConn, Fr., P: Kinney made three starts in the four games she appeared in over the weekend, going 1-2. The freshman picked up nine strikeouts through 14 innings of work, including three in the Huskies' 7-3 victory over No. 21 Baylor Saturday night.
Angela Giampolo, Villanova, Sr., 2B: Paced the Villanova offense during the opening weekend of the season, leading the team in batting average (.333), hits (6) and runs scored (4) over five games; reached the 100-career runs scored mark on Saturday.
