Season’s First #BIGEASTwlax Weekly Awards Announced

BIG EAST Attacker Of The Week
Megan Menzuber, Marquette, R-Sr., A
Menzuber is off to a hot start in 2021 as the BIG EAST’s goals and points leader, averaging 3.75 goals per game and 5.50 points over the first four games. The redshirt-senior attacker tallied a combined 15 goals, seven assists and 22 points against Central Michigan, Cincinnati, Oregon and Kent State, which included a nine-point (6g, 3a) outing against the Bearcats, a five-goal showing against the Ducks and a six-point (3g, 3a) performance against the Golden Flashes. Marquette went 2-0 over the last week, in which Menzuber totaled eight goals and three assists in victories over Oregon and Kent State.

BIG EAST Midfielder Of The Week
Sydney Watson, UConn, Sr., M
Watson has lead the Huskies to a 2-1 start on the year with 12 points off 11 goals and one assist, along with 21 draw controls, four ground balls and a caused turnover. In Sunday’s win over New Hampshire she tallied season highs of six points and five goals, while matching her season best with eight draw controls. Through three games her goals average ranks second in the BIG EAST at 3.67 per game.

BIG EAST Defensive Player Of The Week
Ariana Kline, UConn, So., D
Kline has anchored a UConn defense which has allowed just 8.33 goals per game to open the year, the stingiest mark in the BIG EAST. The sophomore defender averages 2.67 ground balls per game, which included four against Hofstra on Feb. 20. She has been credited with six caused turnovers. UConn has outscored its opponents by a 48-25 margin so far, while disrupting nearly one-third of their opponents’ clear attempts. Over the last week, the Huskies’ defense allowed just eight goals over two games, including just three by New Hampshire on Sunday – the lowest amount allowed by a BIG EAST team this season.

Lauren Barry, UConn, Fr., A
Barry has come off the bench over the first three games of her collegiate career, totaling four points off three goals and an assist. In Sunday’s win over New Hampshire, the rookie attacker registered her first career hat trick, while also being credited with a ground ball.

Lia LaPrise, UConn, Sr., M – 13 points off six goals and seven assists over the first three games (2-1) of the year, including a seven-point (2g, 5a) showing in Sunday’s win over New Hampshire
