Offensive Player of the Week
Jaela Zimmerman, Creighton, Jr., OH (Lincoln, Neb.)
Creighton junior Jaela Zimmerman repeats as BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week as she helped lead the Bluejays to back-to-back sweeps over Butler this past weekend. Her kills per set average (4.17) is second in the league last week with a hitting percentage of .312 which also ranks in the top 10. Zimmerman added 3.50 digs per set as well. On Friday, Zimmerman posted 13 kills and nine digs while hitting .448 in a 3-0 sweep. On Saturday, she helped clinched the series with a double-double, 12 kills, 12 digs and an ace. Creighton is 5-1 in the Midwest division with two weeks left to play.
Defensive Player of the Week
Ellie Bolton, Creighton, Fr., L (Shawnee, Kan.)
Creighton freshman libero Ellie Bolton averaged 5.33 digs and 1.00 assists per set as Creighton picked up a pair of 3-0 road wins at Butler. Bolton anchored a defense that limited Butler to just 8.83 kills per set and .062 hitting. In Friday’s 3-0 victory for the Bluejays, Bolton had 14 digs and a pair of assists. Creighton held Butler to .096 hitting. Bolton concluded her week with 18 digs and four assists in Saturday’s sweep. Creighton held Butler to .033 hitting. Bolton’s dig average was a high among league leaders last week.
Freshman of Week
Kiera Booth, Villanova, Fr., MB (Berlin, Pa.)
Villanova rookie Kiera Booth had a standout match against St. John’s on Wednesday with 11 kills, one solo block and nine assisted blocks. Booth also had a .429 hitting percentage in the 3-1 victory. Booth’s 10 blocks led the conference last week. Villanova is 2-1 in the East Division standings with two weeks left to play.
Honor Roll
Rachel Krasowski, DePaul
In a non-league week for the Blue Demons, Krasowski helped DePaul go 2-0 with an average of 4.55 digs per set. She had a match high 22 digs in a five-set win over Iowa State on Friday. Added 11 assists on the weekend including a career-high six on a 3-1 win on Saturday.
Allison Barber, Providence
Barber helped the Friars to an impressive 2-0 league weekend, this time over UConn as she averaged 3.25 kills per set, 10.50 assists per set. In the 3-1 win over UConn on Friday, she had 45 assists, three service, three kills and four block assists. In Saturday’s sweep over UConn she had 39 assists, 10 digs and three kills.
Emma Nelson, Providence
Nelson averaged .325 kills, 0.25 blocks with .025 digs while hitting .226 as Providence swept UConn this weekend. On Friday, Nelson hit .357 with 14 kills.
Illana Rodriguez, St. John’s
Rodriguez averaged 4.91 digs per set which ranked third in the league last week as the Red Storm went 2-1 with a sweep of Seton Hall and a loss to Villanova. She posted digs of 17, 15 and 22 in the three-match week.
Carrigan O’Reilly, Xavier
Helped Xavier post a 1-1 record last week in non-league action as she averaged 10.43 assists and 2.57 digs per set. Her stat total was 73 assists, 18 digs, two blocks and six kills over tow matches against UIC and Dayton.
