Butler's Sabins, UConn's Nelson Share Male Golfer of the Week Honors

Xavier's McMyler Takes Female Golfer of the Week

NEW YORK – Butler’s Logan Sabins and Connecticut’s Jared Nelson will share BIG EAST Male Golfer of the Week honors after capturing medalist honors in their respective tournaments.  Sabins won the Pinehurst Intercollegiate and Nelson tied for first place at the Bash at the Beach in N. Myrtle Beach, S.C. Xavier’s Emma McMyler has been named BIG EAST Female Golfer of the Week after a pair of top-five finishes in three tournaments.
 
BIG EAST Male Golfers of the Week                              
Logan Sabins, Butler, Gr. – At the Pinehurst Intercollegiate, Sabins shot a one-under 70 in Saturday’s second round to move to the top of the leaderboard, then put together a strong closing stretch to nail down a first-place finish.  After starting on the 10th hole of the Pinehurst No. 8 course on Sunday, he made par on the first nine holes and birdied holes No. 7, No.8 and No. 9.  His even-par round of 71 in the final round put him at 214 (+1) for the 54-hole tournament and gave him a three-shot win.

Jared Nelson, Connecticut, Jr. – Nelson fired an 8-under 208 and tied for first place at the Bash at the Beach in N. Myrtle Beach, S.C.  After a first-round score of four-under 68, the junior shot 70 in the second and third rounds at Surf Golf and Beach Club.  The tournament did not break the tie for medalist honors.  The result was Nelson’s fourth straight top-five finish of the season.

BIG EAST Female Golfer of the Week
Emma McMyler, Xavier, Fr. – McMyler has posted a pair of third-place finishes in three tournaments this spring.  She tied for third (218, +2) at the UNF Collegiate and tied for third (148, +4) at the UAB Tournament.  The freshman also tied for 19th (220, +4) at the FAU Paradise Invitational.  The team’s top finish in those tournaments was a second place at the UAB Tournament.

BIG EAST Men’s Notes Seton Hall junior Deven Ramachandran tied for 13th place at the Ross Collegiate Classic in Pinehurst, N.C.  In a field of 82 golfers, he shot 5-over par 221 (76-73-72) and had six birdies in the final round.  The Pirates finished in eighth place ahead of St. John’s and Villanova in the field…DePaul competed with Butler and Xavier in the Pinehurst Intercollegiate and was led by Perry Chong, who finished in a tie for 18th with a 224 that included a career-best round of 69 in the second round.  Xavier’s top finisher was senior Ben Pirro who tied for 35th at 228…Marquette finished 11th at the Valspar Collegiate in Palm City, Fla.  Hunter Eichhorn was MU’s top finisher, tying for 40th place at 8-over (77-75-69--221)…Creighton took ninth at the GCU Invitational.  Nate Vontz shot an opening round 66 and tied for 11th at 215 (66-75-74—215).     

BIG EAST Women’s Notes – Seton Hall was led by Sarah Fouratt and Lizzie Win at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate in New Orleans, La.  The duo both shot a 15-over 231 for the tournament.  The Pirates placed 12th in the team standings with a 72-over-par 936 (316-310--936).  Win (76-81-74—231) and Fouratt (77-76-78-231) finished 16 strokes behind the individual champion, Nebraska’s Kate Smith…     St. John’s graduate student Linda Wang finished in a tie for second place with senior teammate Andrea Sanchez, carding a five-over 77 at the one-round Hawk Spring Series…Creighton placed second at the MSU Spring Invitational.  Freshman Gabby Tremblay and Katie Allen recorded top-10 finishes. Tremblay was fifth (78-77-82—237) and Allen was sixth (85-80-74—239).
