BIG EAST Male Athlete of the Week
Michael Dickson, Butler, R-Jr. (Chester Springs, Pa.)
Butler junior Michael Dickson went undefeated across both No. 1 singles and doubles matches this weekend, leading the Bulldogs to wins over Chicago State, 5-2, and IUPUI, 6-1. Dickson opened the weekend teaming up with Thomas Brennan for a 6-1 in the No. 1 doubles. In No. 1 singles, he battled back from a first set loss to win in three (4-6, 6-4, 6-2). Against IUPUI, Dickson paired with Drew Michael at the No. 1 for a 6-4 showing before handling the No. 1 singles in straight sets (6-1, 6-3). Returning from an off year due to injury, this was the first outing this season Dickson has played at the No. 1. Dickson was the only Bulldog to post a doubles win for Butler over the weekend.
 
BIG EAST Female Athlete of the Week
Kat Lyman, Xavier, So. (Mount Pleasant, S.C.)
Xavier sophomore Kat Lyman helped the Musketeers to two wins this weekend, 7-0 over Dayton and 4-3 over Cincinnati. Lyman was perfect 2-0 in singles action and 2-0 in doubles playing on the No. 2 court. Xavier (9-1) has now won six consecutive matches. Against Dayton, Lyman, partnered with Kaitlin Ruether to take a 7-5 win in the No. 2 doubles spot to secure the point for the Musketeers after the No. 1 and 3 doubles were split. Lyman also picked up a win in the No. 2 singles spot, 7-6 (5), 1-6, 7-6 (3) to pick up Xavier’s sixth point in the Musketeers’ 7-0 sweep of the Flyers. Against Cincinnati, Lyman and Ruether picked up a 6-3 win in No. 2 doubles to make it 1-1 in doubles decisions, Xavier would eventually secure the point. Lyman also picked up another win in No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-0, to put Xavier ahead 3-0 in an eventual 4-3 win over the Bearcats. The singles win against UC moved Lyman to 10-0 on the season in singles play.
 
Notable Performances:
  • DePaul’s Boris Spanjaard helped the DePaul men to their fifth straight win as he we won 7-6 (8-6 tie breaker) for the doubles point against UIC. Spanjaard clinched the match for DPU winning 6-4, 6-2 at No. 3 singles.
  • Jessica Livianu of St. John’s dominated the No. 1 court against Seton Hall, winning her singles match in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1.
  • Marquette’s Luis Heredia Gomez, Teamed up with Fran San Andres for pair of wins at No. 1 doubles against Illinois State. He won at No. 2 singles at Notre Dame. Marquette won both matches against Illinois State but lost to Notre Dame.
