Player of the Week
Erik Stock, UConn, Jr., Utility (Virginia Beach, Va.)
Connecticut junior Erik Stock batted .471 (8-for-17) in a 3-1 week for the Huskies which included a 2-1 series victory over Rhode Island and a midweek win over Central Connecticut State. Stock led the league with eight hits last week and was in the top four in batting average, slugging percentage, on-base percentage, runs, runs batted in and doubles. He was second RBI with five. Stock played the outfield in all four games for UConn last week and did not commit an error but made 10 putouts. He had a multi-hit game in all four, crossing the plate a total of four times with a double and a triple. He also stole three bases. His slugging for the week was .706, his on-base percentage was .500.
Pitcher of the Week
Jimmy Kingsbury, Villanova, Jr., RHP (Phoenixville, Pa.)
Villanova junior Jimmy Kingsbury flirted with near one-hitter in a 9.0 inning complete game victory for the Wildcats over local-rival Penn, 3-2. Kingsbury retired 20-straight batters with 11 strikeouts from the second through the eighth innings. He carried a one-hit shutout into the ninth inning and finished off his second career complete game effort. He finished with a career-high 13 strikeouts, the most in a game by a Villanova pitcher since 2013. In the victory, he walked two, allowed three hits and allowed just one earned run. Kingsburgy is the fourth consecutive Villanova pitcher to earn Pitcher of the Week honors. He is also the fourth different pitcher.
Honor Roll
Connor Schultz, Butler, Sr., RHP
Schultz struck out 10 batters over six full innings in his outing vs. Valpo. Butler won 5-4.
Aaron Steinhart, Butler, So., C
Steinhart hit a home run in all three games against Valpo last weekend allowing BU to win the series 2-1. He ended the week with eight RBI and four runs scored.
Patrick Gallagher, UConn, Fr., RHP
Second-year freshman starter Gallagher had a career outing in a 2-0 win for UConn over Central Connecticut. Gallagher pitched five scoreless innings with a career-high nine strikeouts. He allowed just one walk and three hits.
Andrew Meggs, Creighton, So., INF
Led Creighton to a two-game sweep of Bradley as he hit .667 (6-for-9) with three runs scored and two RBI for .778 slugging and a .667 on-base percentage.
Trevor Olson, Xavier, Sr., LHP
Went 6.2 innings in Friday’s win over Evansville, allowing just one earned run on three hits with a career-high eight strikeouts. It was a 6-1 win for Olson and the Musketeers.
