BIG EAST Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Sean Dolan, Villanova, R-Fr.
At the Raleigh Relays, Dolan won the 1,500-meter run in what was his first outdoor collegiate race, posting the fastest 1,500m time in Division I this season. Dolan snapped the tape in 3:39.45, the fastest finish by a Villanova runner since 2012. It marked the eighth-fastest time in Wildcat program history.
BIG EAST Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Brendan Watkins, Butler, Jr.
Watkins made a statement in his first appearance in a Butler uniform at the Raleigh Relays, crushing a 51-year-old Butler triple jump record with a mark of 15.34m that earned him third overall. Later in the weekend he took second in the long jump with a mark of 7.36m, moving him up to third in the Bulldog record book. Watkins leads the BIG EAST in both events. The triple jump mark ranks 37
th in the NCAA this season, while his long jump mark ranks 51
st among all Division I competitors. Both lead the BIG EAST.
BIG EAST Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Abbey Wheeler, Providence, Grad.
Wheeler ran the fourth-fastest 5,000 meters among Division I competitors this spring at this weekend’s Raleigh Relays. Her finish of 15:46.87 was fourth among collegiate runners and leads the BIG EAST this season.
BIG EAST Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
Chanell Botsis, UConn, Jr.
At the UConn Spring Invite, Botsis recorded a pair of throws which rank in the top 50 nationally these season, beginning with a personal record in the javelin of 46.88 meters. She was runner-up in the hammer throw with a toss of 60.91m. The winning javelin mark ranks 50
th in Division I and second in the BIG EAST this spring, while the hammer throw distance is 33
rd in the NCAA and first in the conference.
Additional performances of note:
- Butler senior sprinter Carson Fields broke school records in the 100m (11.88) and 200m (24.21) at the Raleigh Relays; her 100m times ranks second in the BIG EAST this spring while her 200m leads all conference foes
- Butler’s Euan Makepeace and Georgetown’s Robert Brandt both posted the No. 2 times among NCAA competitors last week at the Raleigh Relays, with Makepeace’s performance coming in the 5,000 meters (13:44.18) and Brandt’s coming in the 10,000m (28:23.55)
- Competing at their home facility, UConn’s Wellington Ventura (400m-H, 51.70) and Chris Keegan (hammer throw, 63.13m) recorded the top marks in the BIG EAST this season in their respective events, both of which rank in the top 30 nationally
- St. John’s Leah Anderson posted the top 100m time (11.81) in the BIG EAST this spring and the No. 2 200m time (24.32) at the Fordham Icahn Invitational
- Villanova’s Lydia Olivere recorded a 1,500m PR which currently leads the BIG EAST and ranks 13th nationally, finishing in 4:22.28 at the Raleigh Relays
